Disclaimer: the first thing to always say is, "To each his or her own, ride your own ride."
That said...
Hey, bikes are fun. GREAT fun. Many of us have ridden bikes, or still ride bikes. Those of us who never have ridden bikes, and only Spyders-- you're missing out. But you probably know that.
But Spyders are fun. GREAT fun. As any of us well know. They don't ride like bikes, but so what?
You know what else don't ride like bikes? ATVs. Snowmobiles. Jet-Skis. Waverunners. Go-Karts. Sidecar hacks. On and on... there are *plenty* of great fun vehicles out there.
Oh, and guess what? *Motorcycles* ride differently from each other, too. Sport bikes versus cruisers versus dual sports versus dirtbikes versus supermotos versus scooters versus... etc., etc.
It's not just a binary choice, "Motorcycle, or car," yet time and again I've read two-wheel riders put it precisely that way, and use that crutch to ridicule the Spyder. A vehicle many of them haven't ridden, or if they have, ridden under circumstances destined to give them a negative impression (i.e., the countersteering-veteran motorcycle rider who spends only 10 miles test riding a Spyder wondering why the "ride sucks so much" :roflblack

.
Alas, this rider voiced the two common Spyder misconceptions I hear most from loyal two-wheel riders:
1. The Spyder is only for riders who can't ride a motorcycle because they're disabled/afraid of dropping it/too old, etc.
2. If it doesn't lean, you might as well just get a car.
To #1, I always respond: at the age of 36 in perfect health I got a Spyder because it's uniquely fun... AND because I can't drop it. :joke: Riding my Spyder in lousy urban terrain, I can stop better than any bike, I can ride over terrain that would drop any bike and laugh inside my helmet wondering what just went under my wheel, and I can keep my dang feet up at every last dang light in a city full of them.
To #2, again, go-karts don't lean, ATVs don't lean, plenty of vehicles that aren't cars don't lean. And they're still more fun riding than cars, no? But unlike those fun vehicles, I can take my Spyder out on the street, like cars and bikes. But unlike a car, I can enjoy the same open-air perch I can enjoy on a bike (and nooo, a convertible is NOT comparable to being atop a bike or a trike, as we all know). But unlike a bike, I don't have to worry about half the things looking to hurt me-- or worse-- on two-wheels, allowing me to concentrate on the OTHER things out there on the road looking to hurt me.
Anyway, I wish I could meet this guy. I'd let him ride my Spyder, and I'd borrow his bike, ignorance would be eradicated, and many smiles would be had, I guarantee! :doorag:
