Ride-On for your Spyder

Ride-On

I just finished installing Ride-On for my RT according to Lamonster's instructions:clap:. I did not un-balance the wheels and I felt very little vibration on my test ride. I rode 500 mi to Cinci and back with no problems. I now feel alot more secure about riding cross-country to California (again) in a week. SR-50 in Nevada doesn't scare me now.:D

I get a lot of calls, PM's and emails about how much Ride-On to use on the Spyder. The guys at Ride-On are getting the same calls and they have come up with a recommended amount for each tire of your Spyder for best results.

Your front wheels get 13 oz each
Your rear wheel gets 18 oz
You want to order the automotive treatment.
You'll need a total of 44 oz for best results.

This is one of the products that I really believe in. I've been running this in my Spyder for over 40,000 miles now and use it not only for flat protection but I don't run any wheel weights on my Spyder and have had great results. My ride is smooth and my tires wear evenly.

Based on what Ride-on had said last year they gave the oz. for regular duty and severe duty. I put in 9 oz. fronts and 13 oz. rear. Do you think there will be a problem to add to what is already in there?

Well-- after various tests switching between both sets of rims--- my 6 spoke ones are JUST FINE....

Even though I've got around 14-15 oz. of Ride-on in the front--- they're just fine... Got a few hundred miles in this weekend--- no problems at all.

13/18 might be a little high...I think some have had some issues with 'this much' in their tires.

I went with 12/16 and all is good. I be thinkin' that if you add too much, it will throw the balance off and the wheel weights will have to come off (well, the weights will really be throwing the balance off).

However, if you add a tad less, you get the positive effects from the Ride-on yet don't have to take off the weights.

After adding several hundred miles after the addition of the Ride-on, I have decided to leave the wheel weights on. George Burns of Ride-on also advised to NOT remove them unless you really felt the need. I think with too much Ride-on that the 'need' will be greater to remove the weights...

couple of pictures of Ride-on still in the tire after being run in a Kumho Exsta AST for around 12,000 miles. Looks almost the same at when it was put in.

now I dont know what to think.

Cliffm4, some of the first people to put Ride-On in their Spyder tires called Ride-On and got their recomendation on the exact product to buy and how much to put each tire (as Lamonster stated in his post starting this thread). I've had it in three Spyder rear tires now and its in the fronts (original tires) without an issue.

Ride-On customer service indicates you DO use the AUTO for Spyders since they don't have "rounded" tires. Ignore the web statement about Motorcycle use.

I called Ride-On, and they did recommend the auto formula for the flat-tread Spyder tires. I used the amounts recommended in their literature for the tire sizes, which is somewhat less than the numbers Lamont quoted. The results were great! I think that there might be more "thumping" when you first ride at low temps with an extra amount of product, but that is just a guess. The slight imbalance that the Ride-On causes goes away in a few minutes of riding. My only beef about the product is that the containers did not contain the full amount stated on the label, all but one of mine were short...one by four ounces! If the minimum amount you need comes real close to the amount you order, you will not have enough to do the job. Fortunately, I ordered extra for another vehicle, but I will have to order again before I can do that vehicle.

amounts

Just got off the phone with ride-on and they have a revised amount for the spyder. they said 9-11 oz in the front and 15-18 in the rear, auto formula.

it does depend on your tire size though if you went with alternative rims for example.

for 165/65R14 (stock front tires) they require 10-12 oz.
for 225/50/15 (Faulken 512 but same size as OEM tire) the require 14-17 oz.

http://www.ride-on.com/calculator.html this is the link to their calculator, make sure you select auto/SUV specifications to get the proper numbers.

This has been kicked around quite a bit. But, if I remember correctly, even with the stock OEM tires you didn't use the chart. I believe it was based on what Ride-On (the manufacurer) did as far as checking specifically for the Spyder. :dontknow:
