Recall

Fluid words

Well my dealer finally got the recall parts in for my 2013 RTS. Bringing it in today and p/u tomorrow. Hope everything goes ok.

You are EXACTLY right. (and here I am a "stickler" for being precise with his words). What I meant to say was the "clutch fluid" which I believe is different? Perhaps not.

Chris

Me thinks they are of the same common source. Since there is only one fill point!

Be curious as to the results if detectable on the coolant/Aunty freeze ratio?

I'm with Chris. What is the root cause?

Also, has BRP claimed this will cure all the heat problems? If so, I haven't seen it and if not, people are making unfounded assumptions. This solution is intended to address very specific safety issues. Other heat related problems likely fall into preferences, which don't rise to the level of a safety recall.
Hey Mark.... when parts are melting... one would have to assume it is a heat problem. I would PREFER that FB's bike not: run with WHITE colored plugs... Very Lean... and that the gas tank was was not so hot that it spews gas at her when she removes the cap and puts gas into the hot tank..... go into heat limp mode....surge at idle from 800 to over 2000 rpm.... Gas mileage vary from 20 mpg to 35 mpg tank to tank in the same driving conditions..... These are some of my 'preferences'..... there is something going on under the Tupperware that is not right.... The heat issues may or may not be the root cause.... but it is there... and we are not talking about ryder comfort on a hot day.

Just called my dealer, Metro Motorsports in Cedar Rapids, IA. The girl in the service department said that it might be a couple of weeks yet before they see any parts for the recall. You'd think BRP could get parts to the dealers faster. Of course, this dealer is primarily a Harley dealer although they do have a good Spyder tech. Not a big deal for me though, I check my MC last Saturday and it looks fine. Would like to get it fixed though.

Tony

Hey Tony, I just called Metro today and they said they just got the parts in today. I have an appointment on Sept 23. I was just there last Sat for my 600 mile service, and nobody said a word about a safety recall. I just got the letter from BRP yesterday. Will be nice to get this fixed. Hope it's nice that day as it's almost 80 miles to Metro for me. Dan

HG, i guess its only an issue if you are experiencing it. I find it a bit surprising that some on here are ok with a heat shield stopping a meltdown and eventual fire( I pray it works). But I find it very disappointing that the heat riders are feeling is waved off as "what do you expect". These are veteran riders complaining about real heat discomfort and other issues, not newbs on their first bike. I love my spyder, but not everything about it. I guess the coolaid isn't consumed by everyone, thankfully.:doorag:

Why is it that folks think this is going to cure all the heat problems on the RT and ST?

This is only a token that BRP is throwing to us and most certainly does not address the root cause of the heat problems.

Carl
The root cause is exploding gasoline in a very small container (an engine cylinder). This creates a lot of heat. To eliminate the root cause requires eliminating the exploding gasoline. As I ubderstand there are few options to accomplish this:1) Electrical motors, 2) Nuclear power, 3) A tow rope 4) Don't start the moter or drive.

Wait....none of these are feasible.

Oh...hey...I have an idea! Let's just take off most of the tubberware--it's only cosmetic anyway! Leave the frunk 'cuz thats, like, majorly convienant, but get rid of the rest of it. If you don't wanna do that, take out your trusty cordless and drill 1/4 inch holes all over the tubberware. If you plan it right, it would look ok--don't you think?

My response to your quote is NOT to rub it in, but instead suggest that perhaps you might call your dealer and have them put some grease in the proverbial squeaky wheel.
I say this because I took my spyder into my dealer yesterday for the "kit install". Admittedly they were supposed to do some other work. However, I got a call this morning that when they opened her up yesterday the MC was "kaput". They said they ordered the part and it was in today and would be installing. I'll have my spyder back by 5:00 P.M. I'm pointing this out simply to have you jump on your dealer. It should not take two weeks to get the part.

Recall done

Called my dealer (Mountain Motor Sports Marietta GA) on Monday Sept 9th the scheduled an appt for the next day. Got there at 10:00 AM and out by noon. They added the recall fixes and also replaced a sway bar part. They checked oil, coolant, and tire pressure. No charge for any thing. Great dealer.

Back on the Road

Just picked up the RT from recall work and nice to hear that the part that was supposed to melt didn't.......but the Evap canister did:yikes:! They replaces that and wrapped it with magic tape and did the original work and we are back on the road again.

got that not so comfy feeling

My girlfriend are all set to go to spyderquest next weekend... should I be concerned that I won't have the recall work done by then? I can imagine a long line of spyders cruising down the road on fire. :)

See you then!

Bring lots of Hot Dogs and Marshmallows!:roflblack: As my dealer told me, if yay were going to blow up they would have issued a "Do Not Ryde" order. I am sure you will be fine.

Got my spyder (2013 RT-S) back today from the dealer. 14,000 mile oil change and service maintenance (oil, filters, 2 plugs, change in coolant/distilled water ratio, retorqued motor mounts because of handle bar shake or vibration at start, AND brake master cylinder due to "melt down", bled brake system after MC replaced and added brake fluid, replaced vapor canister, performed recall "kit installation" at NO COST either because of warranty, recall campaign and prepaid maintenance contract at purchase of spyder.

I'm adding here in this thread that my service manager did say that I was having leakage which COULD have been a BIG problem.

Just called Metro today. I've got an appointment on Sept 19. I'm also going to get a new rear tire put on. I'm almost down to the wear marks after 8300 miles.

Recall for gas fumes

Is the recall only for 2013 or does it include older models such as the 2012 RT? Anyone know just what the recall kit includes? What part or parts the recall kit is for?
AZCowboy :banghead: I get the gas fumes on my 2012 RT Limited and I don't over fill it. The fumes come and go. The last time today I ran over 70 miles none stop and it was only 95 out were I was. When I stopped the guys came running over wondering were the gas leak was on my bike and I was down to a quarter of a tank??? :banghead:

Heat problem

We go in tonight for service tomorrow. Tech says about an hours worth of work, and they are providing replacement or protection for the canister. I must say that we have not had a lot of heat issues with this ryde. I fully expected to be warm riding on top of an internal combustion motor, and that is what I have felt. I have not been HOT until this last Sunday afternoon when we were ryding home from our group ryde, and it was 102 outside.
You should come out here try yours with our 100 to 120 plus then you will know how hot it is with these bikes. I fixed mine don't have that problem any more but BRP with all thier techs can't do. On to the gas fumes and hope not the flames.

There is a real heat problem and out here we are riding in 100 to 120 plus and even with heavy boots your right foot gets real hot. It is a easy fix and don't cost much either. BRP has already doing some of the fixes on the 2013 ST's. They just don't want to admit they have problems. You would think they would of doing it with the RT's since they cost more. :f_spider: RJ
