There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Question for 2014 RTS & limited owners?

Just purchased my third RTS A 2014 model and noticed that this one didn't come with the electric front trunk release, my 2011 and 2012 both had one. So I started checking the 2014 parts and accessory catalog and it shows that the trunk electric release button is standard on the RTS's, so then I went to the BRP web site and and low and behold it also lists it as part of the RTS package. My question to all the other 2014 RTS owners did your unit come with my missing trunk release button installed? My dealer was unaware of this problem until I brought it to his attention and has sent a E-Mail to BRP in trying to resolve this issue for me

None of the 2014 RT come with the button. But you can purchase it separately and have it installed. A lady who had her grandkid sitting on the passenger seat inadvertently released the parking brake when she meant to open the front trunk and the Spyder rolled. So now we have to turn the key to open the trunk.

Thank you for the info, do you have any idea how long this policy change has been in effect from BRP. And why does one stupid person that doesn't know how to apply the brake remove something the rest of us enjoy and know how to use properly. My concern with this change is that if BRP has had plenty of time to change their web page and place and addendum to their parts and accessories catalog. I feel I should not have to pay another$100.00 plus install fees to have something that they are still showing. as part of the RTS included package.:yikes:

 Frustrating; isn't it?
I suppose that if you've got a $28,000 or so bike sitting in your garage, is it the money? :dontknow:
Or the principle, that bugs you about this? :dontknow:
Me; I'm just planning on buying the button when I can!

IMHO... save the money and turn the key while the engine is running: push down and turn counter-clockwise (it works with the 2013 and above).
My release button works when it wants to... I have to press it several times until it pops. I have no time to go to the dealer just for that, eliminating valuable riding time.

We have kind of went around and around on this one. The BRP site did list the electronic front trunk release as a standard item on the RT-S and RTL. I went back just now, just to make sure, and I could not find where it is shown as a part of the package. I gave it a pretty good look and could not find it.

There was mention early on about the switch "gone missing." BRP is still covered because they will invoke the "we reserve the right to make changes..." issue.

Myself, I have grown to like the electronic trunk release, and would miss it for sure. Would I put one in for an extra $150 or so? Not only no, but heck no. This item should be on a machine that costs $28K. If removal of the switch was due to one incident about the lady pushing the wrong button and causing the -:ani29: to roll-I question this premise. Before I believe that one--I want names and addresses. :roflblack::roflblack: IMO: it is more likely they cut the switch to save money, thinking that people would line up and pay the extra for the switch. At this time, my unwillingness to pay for an additional switch--now a "safety" issue, would be based on the principle of it. I guess I have grown somewhat pickey :roflblack:

My great dealer!!

OK guys I must have one of the Best Dealers around. When I bought my 2014 RTS I questioned where the electric front trunk release button was. Several people on this forum said that because of an accidental release by a really stupid person that BRP was not including that button as part of the RTS package any longer. When I mentioned this to my Dealer and advised him that BRP's web site still was showing it as included he brought up their web site and noticed it was still there listed as standard in the 2014 parts and accessory catalog. He agreed to send a E-Mail to BRP to see if they could rectify this issue for his customer. BRP responded to install the electric trunk release button at their cost and they also would cover the cost of the install. So just to let the forum know that the statement that no 2014 RTS have the electric front trunk release button is not entirely true because mine was installed today on my 2014 bike at no cost to me.:yes::firstplace:

FWIW, this seems pretty controversial as to if it should be supplied, if it was deleted for safety, or if it was deleted for a cost saving measure.

There seems to be many ways a buyer is viewing this, if listed it is supoosed to be included even though the options list is subject to change? How anyone could think the options catalog would be a viable options list seems odd, because there are more detail mistakes than the electric release.

The primary manual of reference, beyond a build sheet would be the IPC (illustrated parts catalog) and it's latest revisions.

Curious, I checked a 2014 RTs and RTL in the parts manuals. These were both for an SE6. Each bike utilized the same illustration. Both showed what appears to be the electric actuator. It is listed as item # 444. When you try to order this part, there is no part number for it, but has a statement "Not Available For This Vehicle".

I am going to lean more towards the safety side of this. I don't have the electric release for the frunk. But any action that could be a simple mistake, could release the brakes. I would rather see an unused switch location utilized to lessen the likelihood of an accidental brake release.

I do not like the cable setup, it works but does not appear it will last a long time. The cable angles are weird and bind.

My goal, leave the oem cable setup, pickup a couple of electric actuators, some waterproof momentary switches and keep the parking brake system, isolated from the utilities. Have electric frunk and seat releases.

All the best to those of you getting this added, I even wondered about it when we purchased ours. Currently, it's no big deal to me.

All the best with it.

very happy to report that the E-Mail my dealer sent to BRP about my missing electric front trunk release button worked BRP responded with install the button on my bike at their cost. This was done yesterday at my first oil change, the blue lights in the switches is very bright but I will learn to live with that, could not ask for a better dealer and service department than I have here in Boise Idaho. Dealer name of Moto tech if ever in the Boise, Meridian Idaho area and you need anything by all means look them up, great place to do business with!

Have them order the right colored switch it is available. For what ever reason BRP sends kits out from 2011 with blue switches probably NOS. I had it done with my Fog light kit got blue dealer ordered orange and it is all good now.
