• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

possible rear tire solution...

What aspect ratio are you running 50, 55, or 60?
/Ken

My tire (B.F. Goodrich gForce Sport) has the same dimensions as the OEM tire: 225/50R15. The price on tirerack.com was $99.00 plus $17.00 freight at the time I bought mine. I actually got it locally for the same price. The price on tirerack.com today is $83.00 plus freight (running a "special"). At that price, I should buy one for inventory. I had it mounted and balanced at my local after-market Harley shop. They charged one hour labor at $74.00. I only go my Spyder dealer for warranty work.

Michelin will NEVER get another nickel of mine.....Had the tread seperate from the carcass on one of my truck tires, caused $5000 in body damage. Two local tire professionals both said it was Michelin's responsibility, Michelin however, determined that it had to be MY fault, and refused to pay the claim. I hope they go out of business......:cus:

Michelin tend to wear out faster as well...usually softer rubber. I prefer Bridgestone/Firestone...

$74.00 to mount a tire!? :yikes: I'm in the wrong business!

Like you I am...

I am in the wrong business too. $74 to mount one is a little steep. I do my GL1800 and 1500 tires myself the take them to the local knuckle draggers shop for a spin balance 10 bucks or they will remove old and mount new for another 10. Not to bad. Then I add 3 oz of dynabeads to the rear and 2 oz to the front in addition to the spin balance.

Bone Crusher... I try to get the treadware 500 or better tires and they have always worn well for me. The real super high performance are in the 200 to 300 range and they do ware real fast.

Ron: I agree with you however, because you do your own wrenching you have lost touch with reality somewhat. Maintaining the Spyder is very expensive. The BRP engineers don't have much of a grasp on this either. When my first Spyder was brand new the official maintenance schedule called for an inspection of the valve clearances at 600 miles. BRP was asking us to check to see if they made a mistake in production and to do it at our expense. That was pure insanity. Very shortly, they eliminated the inspection at 600 miles. They still require the inspection every 12,000 miles. This also is nonsense. This is overkill at our expense. If it is alright with you I will bring my Spyder to your place for some of that free maintenance.:ohyea:

I believe the '600 mile valve inspection' was started by a misprint either online or in the manual. Mine is an early 2008 PE and the manual says first valve check @ 6,000 and then every 12,000 thereafter (or 2 years).

I had mine inspected @ 6,000 - but would have been fine waiting until 12,000.

Good info!

This was the reason I was searching for a Spyder message board/forum in the first place. I didn't know if there was something different in the bead for the motorcycle tire vs. car tire. OEM tire is $149.99 + mounting and balance at my local Can-Am dealer. Debating between the BFG's and the Sumhito (sp?) on TireRack now.

Please consider...

getting a minimum of traction A and temperature A when you get your replace tire. When your sailing down the interstate at 80 you sure wouldn't want it to break loose or blow out due to heat.
