There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. I was at costco a short time ago and stopped in at their tire center. They have a michelin P225/60 15 in the "H" or "V" speed rating. The " H" speed rating is 134.99 here in North GA. The "V" speed rated is about 20 more. They are Traction A and Temperature A. A very good thread patteren for the rear. The 60 series is an inch taller tire.

They did not have a 165/60 14 for the front.

I haven't tried a 60 on the rear but I am going to measure the clearance when I get back to Florida.

Did you catch the model name of the tire? Just wondering if I could take a peek at one online.

The Name is

pilot exalto a/s. It looks like a good tread pattern to be on the rear. I wish I could get it in the correct size for the front. I would test a complete set now.

The OEM rear tire is $ 140.00. OEM fronts can be had for $ 60 each.

I would be afraid of putting the wrong aspect ratio on, because the tire would be taller. This could probably throw the VSS off. The stock aspect ratio is 50. The 60 is about two inches taller than the 50 and there is a 5.5 inch difference in circumference, so be careful. Besides, a taller tire would look much less sporty and probably look a little out of place.

Firefly I appreciate...

that information :thumbup:because I had previously seen a post that the rear was something like 250 and I knew I wasn't going to pay that much for a tire when I knew I could get a michelin which in my humble opinion is a better tire for about 140.

Thanks again my friend. /Ken

would the 60...

look that much out of place since it is normally really noticed when stopped? The michelin's are steel belted radials and seem to sag and look even wider when stopped. Just an obversation but you have raised a possible problem about the difference the VSS will see.

Maybe Lamont of someone else can put some light on this aspect of the 50 vs the 60 series. /Ken

You can get the OEM rear tire online for $120 (20% discount), but price is not the main reason to change over to an auto tire. Auto tires wear better and last longer. The OEM tire suffers distortion at highway speeds. Centrifugal force causes the center to bulge out and consequently, the center of the tire wears out (little left of center due to the curvature of the road) much faster than it should and the outside of the tire remains relatively unused. An auto tire will wear much more evenly and it will last longer.

I am running a B.F. Goodrich gForce Sport with 14,500 miles so far, and the wear pattern is very even, and I tell it will way out last the OEM tire.

Spyder1026...

What aspect ratio are you running 50, 55, or 60?

HDXBones, if I had a problem like that I would probably feel the same way. I hope you turned it over to your insurance company. Personally I've only had good results with them. I am glad you put this bit of information out though. /Ken

+1 on the Goodrich. I ran two aftermarket tires for a while on the rear... the Goodrich was great. :2thumbs:

Rear tire (other than OEM) replacements are getting more and more attention. I replaced the first tire with an OEM during our trip this summer when we were in Easton, MA. The first tire had 16K, the second one now has over 14K and many miles to go. My next one will be a Kumho. If there is such a thing as a "sexy" tire, that one is. So, next spring I should have one on.

I ran a taller tire to try to get a higher top end and it would default the vss after about a half mile of driving.

I have used all the tires mentioned and the kumho hold up and great and are the cheap off of tirerack.com

According to brp rep.

at the open house i attended they said using any other tire than the spec tire could cause the vss to malfunction.

A side benefit of the michelin tire would be better gas milage-less engine wear (lower rpm) & possible longer tire wear due to larger diameter; if it is taller.

I've been running a Kuhmo for over 13000 miles now and it has not messed with my VSS or any other computer function on the spyder. Also, my dealer mounted it for me.

This is true that this was said, but I believe they also said that if you were to pull a trailer. And lots of people are with no problems. BRP even came out with thier own trailer so go figure.
