Paperwork from dealership

It has been 24 days since we paid for RT Limited and matching trailer and still no documents. In my state you have 30 days to assess, pay taxes, and tag a vehicle. They are telling me it takes three weeks and legally they have the full 30 days before they have to provide it and any penalties are my problem. Pretty poor attitude since we wrote $36,000 to them last month. I was promised that the papers would be at the dealership this past Saturday and made an appointment to pick up our trailer and do the 600 mile service first thing today. I arrived early so I could get to the county to assess and then to the state offices to pay taxes and tags. Well, no papers! Another wasted day! Dealership admin attitude sucks.

It's amazing how friendly folks are when trying to get your money and then once they get it they no longer care.

That is so wrong!

I received my papers about 5 seconds after I handed them the check a few weeks ago. Not sure why they would have to take so long, even if their bikes are all floorplan loaned from a lender, that should only take a few days based on my old banking days.

Ain't that the truth. I just bought a Spyder new this past weekend. Spent the previous week negotiating via email, I have, no lie, 40+ emails from the sales guy begging me to consider their financing, their warranty, etc., etc.

Bought it in person on Saturday, I called the sales guy first thing Monday morning to ask a couple of questions.

"Hi, this is Dave So-and-So, I've got a question for you about my Spyder."

"Who?"

"Dave So-and-So. I just gave you SIXTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ON SATURDAY, remember me?"

I am not making this up.

I hate hate hate HATE dealers.

Very sorry to read this. Makes me even happier to be working with our dealer as we get handed paperwork as I hand them the check. All I have to do is ryde off and enjoy. Never any unfinished business to tend to... :ohyea::spyder2:

I live in Illinois and bought my RT LTD and RT-622 from Midwest Performance & Power in Keokuk, IA. I had my titles, temp plate and all paperwork required to license the vehicle in Illinois before I walked out the door. The next day paid out another small fortune to the IL secretary of state for taxes, plates and title transfers.

Bad dealer--needs free advertising. I have always received my paperwork the day of purchase/pickup for any vehicle.

May be some shady floorplanning/financing stuff going on--one never knows these days.

I know of a dealer from another state that did not report sales to his vendor--so was carrying a bigger floorplan # than actual. To get bikes back for periodic verification by vendor--he would call the people whos bikes he had not reported, and get them back in for a free oil change--so the bikes would be in inventory for the inspection.

Of course he got found out--and is no longer a dealer.

What paperwork are you waiting for? They should have the titles on site to transfer from the dealership to your name. All you should need are the two titles (one for the bike and other for the trailer) and an invoice showing the price you paid for each.

:yikes: Yikes! There's gotta be something going on there. ....

Did you actually take delivery of the RT & Trailer??? I'm thinkin' you did if you were gonna have the 600 mile service done.

If it were me, I'd be in somebody's face, working my way up the food chain at that dealership! :lecturef_smilie:
There are too many good dealers out there to be settling for that kind of treatment.
Just makes ya wonder what kinda service you're get when you need it.:gaah:

So far as you being liable for penalties, the dealership should be reported.
You can prove purchase date with your cancelled check.
I know there was a dealership in WA that pulled this type of thing and they were fined heavily more than once and finally put out of business.

Despite this situation,:welcome: and :congrats: on your Spyder.
Hope you can get this resolved.:pray:
Keep us posted!

Finally got the papers from dealer. Plus trailer. I saw where they had installed the rainshield in the trailer and hadn't vacuumed the shavings. So, I asked, "is this a 2011 or 2010?" I was assured it was a 2011. Well I get to the county assessor office and sure enough the MSO is for a 2010 made in January 2010. Plus no screws for tags, either.

The dealer is Bradfordmarine.

When purchasing both the RT and the RS I had the keys and all paper work in hand before giving up the check. Once I handed them the check the bikes were waiting for me to drive away with license plate installed and temp. registration in hand. I've never had a complaint with my dealer, Honda House Hull St Chesterfield, VA. When we bought the RS the Blue one we wanted was at their other location in Richmond and while I went to get the check and have lunch they trucked to from the other location and preped it so when I returned a few hours later with check in hand it was ready to roll. When I bought the RT I called them on Friday and told the salesman to have it ready Monday along with the 622 trailer as I was taking the MSF course on Saturday and Sunday and even if I failed the course my son would ride it home. Monday morning I picked up my endorsement at DMV and went to the Credit Union and drew out a check then was at the dealers by 11:30 AM. I was riding away with the RT and 622 trailer with all tax paid and plates on and temp. registration in hand by 4:00 PM.

:2thumbs:  :firstplace: My dealer Honda House!

Selling a 2010 as a 2011 is illegal. I'd contact my state attorney general.

I would think the 2010/2011 fiasco on the trailer should be worth about a $1000.00 refund or replace it with a real 2011. Give them an option and then report them to the AG and to BRP.

Dealer handed me all my paper work when I paid for the :spyder2: even sent for the tag. All I had to do was wait for the property tax notice to come in. Even help me find insurance at a reasonable rate.Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble

In these times dealers rarely own the bikes they sell. Either they are floorplanned by the manufacturer or the dealer's bank holds the titles as security on outstanding loans. Once a sale is made the dealer then has to scurry around to get a clean title from one of his financial sources.

This isn't always easy given that banks have tightened up and manufacturers and policing floor plans. As result the dealers will ride the deal as long as they can.

When I bought my :spyder2: I was not given the paper work or tags. I bought it in February,2009 and was n ot given any tags or paper work. I was given a story and I fell for it. I said because of the weather that I was not in any big hurry for tags. Ended up going to our state rep and they checked out to find out why. :yikes:
Took a while to get everything. But come to find out that it was not the dealer but the notary that handle it.
Check with them.

When we bought our Spyder the dealer had to buy it from another dealer in another state and hired a trucking service to pick it up and deliver it. The basic transaction went fine, but then our temporary registration and plates expired with no paperwork to get permanent plates. Back to the dealer and he gave me another temporary plate (which I think is illegal). At any rate, my dealer claimed the delay was in getting the paperwork from the dealer they bought from. It finally arrived and I even got my title, all clear and clean. But it was probably about a 5 week wait.

I spent a note to my salesman concerning my displeasure with how we were treated and lied to. I told him that I am taking a bit of time to calm down before I go farther with it. I am considering contacting the attorney general's office and better business bureau.

Sadly, northwest Arkansas has been in a growth spurt for the past thirty years and businesses have the attitutde of selling once and taking you for all they can get. Used to be a big concern for return customers, but no longer the case.

I am mostly concerned with service departments rather than what is out front.

The dealership is aware of this site, as they pointed me in the direction of this forum. So, I am sure they read it. Maybe they will learn some lessons about customer service.

Heck, they didn't even include screws/bolts for the trailer tags. If you can't get the little things right how can you expect the big things to be done right?:gaah:

Looks like a dealer to avoid now. I would demand a 2011 trailer asap if that is what you payed for. Not that there is a difference, until you ever resell. I have never waited for paperwork on any purchase I have made. They get my money, I get the ride. Sorry, but that sounds like a shady dealer to me. Just my 02 cents though.
