I have a 2008 GS/RS SE5 that i bought used in December, kind of a Christmas present. It has about 23000 miles on it and was clean, always thought the previous owner kept it in he's front room. Runs great but I started doing some maintenance items to make sure they were done, new plugs, air filter, new tires, and finally an oil change. Closest dealer quoted $225.00 for oil, filters, seals, and labor. Not too bad but I thought DIY and learn the machine.
After removing the plastic, draining the oil tank and the sump. Time for the filters, out with the old in with the new. Removed the engine filter, and noticed WHAT! The filter had been stuffed in BACKWARDS, this is the long filter with longer cover and long screws. The long screws are long enough that it is possible to put the filter in wrong. Somebody was in a hurry somewhere, sometime. Don't have any idea of when or who did the filter change. The oil was clean so it hadn't been in there to long. Just not being filtered! All else was normal, with no metal on the magnetic plug. Reassembled, filled with oil per the manual and everything works great, shifts better also!
