• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Oil Change what I found!

I have a 2008 GS/RS SE5 that i bought used in December, kind of a Christmas present. It has about 23000 miles on it and was clean, always thought the previous owner kept it in he's front room. Runs great but I started doing some maintenance items to make sure they were done, new plugs, air filter, new tires, and finally an oil change. Closest dealer quoted $225.00 for oil, filters, seals, and labor. Not too bad but I thought DIY and learn the machine.
After removing the plastic, draining the oil tank and the sump. Time for the filters, out with the old in with the new. Removed the engine filter, and noticed WHAT! The filter had been stuffed in BACKWARDS, this is the long filter with longer cover and long screws. The long screws are long enough that it is possible to put the filter in wrong. Somebody was in a hurry somewhere, sometime. Don't have any idea of when or who did the filter change. The oil was clean so it hadn't been in there to long. Just not being filtered! All else was normal, with no metal on the magnetic plug. Reassembled, filled with oil per the manual and everything works great, shifts better also!

Just another to add to the list of reasons to do it yourself if you have the means to do so.

Glad you came across it before it caused any issues.

225 to change the oil? Eeeh gads, i just got mine on 1/1 as well but havent had to do any service on it yet. At this point seeing some numbers for various stuff i am afraid to. Can you come down and change my oil too lol

The dealers are out of control..$225.00 for an oil change. Simple procedure, you can do it...

Tough one..!!

not easy to do but there you have it. Now you know how to do that and can save a $150.00. Glad they didn't mess up with the different screw lengths. :yikes:

I have 2 of these jacks. http://deals.ebay.com/blog/1100-lb-motorcycle-scissor-jack-for-57-off . I use 1 in the front between the front tires and 1 in front of the rear tire. I welded an extension to the one in front of the rear tire so I could use 2 of the Y brackets to lift using the OEM foot pegs. The 1 in the front is positioned just behind the rear edge of the plastic nose piece. I use a pneumatic impact wrench but it can be lifted using a ratchet.

Took almost 3 hours the 1st time I changed my own oil and filters... because I was being VERY careful and slow (makes you wonder how often the dealer techs do oil and filter changes on Spyders?). 2nd time it took about 45 minutes start to finish because I knew what I was doing and the best way to do it. Will continue doing it myself and all other maintenance items... it's not Rocket Science! Sheesh! There are good YouTube videos people have made that explain and demonstrate the process. My SeaDoo is harder to change the oil and filter on honestly (which I do that myself, also).
