• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Educational opportunity for me on Druz fasteners. What is the part number for the fasteners? On my :spyder2: the panel that comes off to check the oil has metal D rings with a screw like bolt. They go into the metal clips and take about 1/4 turn to secure them. I understood that What i have arent standard, thus my question as to what the Druz look like. Are you using these Druz in place of all the black torx bolts? Thanks.

What you have are standard. All of the Spyders have them to check your oil level without a torx wrench. Those are the druz fasteners. Not me, but some of us are useing them all over the bike. Read Some Guys post above to order them with the website he provided.

Those D-ring fasteners are called Dzus fasteners.

Here is the kit I bought:
http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=104_71&products_id=74

That's the 10 piece kit, I also bought a 4 piece one so I would have enough for what I was doing. I did the upper side panels (4 each x 2 sides = 8), the right side radiator cover panel (3) and the Y panel (2). I used a total of 13.

The fastener retainer clips are slightly larger than the bolt retainer clips that are currently on the Spyder. I used a utility knife to widen the plastic slots a bit so they would fit. (don't use a Dremel...it melts the plastic!)

As for the Y panel fasteners (the ones up front by the trunk) I had to use an angle grinder because those retainer slots are metal instead of plastic.

Overall it's not a hard job and the Dzus fasteners make it SOOO much easier to remove panels.

Some people have had luck with installing them on the tail pan while others have had problems. I did not even attempt the tail pan.

Hope this helps!

Educational opportunity was successful. I didn't know what those little critters were called, and being so much faster, I want them in more places. Thank you!!!

My SM5 always takes 4-1/4 qts. on an oil change. That leaves me 3/4 qt for adding. Since I use Amsoil I go 5k~6k between oil changes so I usually need to add 1/4~1/2 qt over that period of time.

Oil fill

Upon checking oil on the first leg of our midwestern jaunt, the level didn't register on the dipstick at all. This was <2000 miles since a dealer oil change. Since it is running the synthetic BRP oil anyway I topped off with Amsoil and 1700 miles later, level is still good. So, perhaps tech did not fill properly (SE5) or the BRP oil didn't hack the extreme heat. By any road, soonest there will be a filter order to Ron and a change to Amsoil motorcycle oil.
