• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I just changed my oil and filter for the first time and it all went very well. Much easier than I thought it would be thanks to all the threads on how to do it.

My only issue is, after I put 4 quarts of oil in it and I bring the bike up to temp and then I shut it off and check the level the dipstick is dry. There is no oil on the stick at all. I thought it only took 4 quarts of oil. Whats the deal ???

I believe it takes 4.5 quarts and occasionally problems occur when dealerships overfill with 5 when they do the changes

Thank you very much. This site is a wealth of info and fast fast fast response times for questions. OK now that I know that, off to the store I go. Good reason to take the Spyder out.

4 quarts should be fine then!

Sure you're checking it right?

Let her run up to temp--- at least 60 seconds--- then turn off and quickly pull dipstick -- wipe it --- screw back in all the way -- remove and check it. Really only get 1 shot at it -- then you have to re-start and let her run for another 60 seconds and repeat.

No nothing, I tried it that way several times and it's still dry. I'm using Amzoil US 1 quart containers. Do you think that has something to do with it ?

Leaving the side plastic off, take it for about a 20 mile ride, then check it. It may be that just idling, the oil does not get warm enough, even though the heat gauge reads 3 or 4 bars.

I would just keep adding like 1/4 quart at a time and checking it until you get a reading---- I usually stop once I see about 1/8" - 1/4" on the bottom of the dipstick-----

Maybe you just drained it really well------:D

The SM5 Takes 4.2 , As hard as it is to believe That .2 will bring the level to where it should be:thumbup:

Exactly right. I had to go get another quart and it took .2-.3 more to register on the stick. I'm back in business and thanks again for all your help.

The old me would have bashed and called BRP's design team idiots for this design flaw, but the new me will not do that. :2thumbs: I really don't like the new me much !:roflblack::joke:

Now, does anyone want to buy a little over a half a quart of Amzoil full synthetic oil ??? :joke:

FYI..... A cordless Screwgun on almost all the tupperware screws made me feel like a Nascar pit guy with the time it shaves off this project. :yikes::yikes:

You know the old saying, [in jersey at least];
You can catch more flies with Dead Squirrel's than you can with Vinegar.:D

Dzuz fasteners all around make things even quicker...... :D

maybe it's leaking again...........:D
Oh... I just KNEW that you'd be front and center for little little conversation... :roflblack::roflblack::roflblack::yes::ohyea:
Maybe you can Jeep your way over to his house with some Harley riders in tow and help him get it right???:2thumbs::joke:

Do you have a side photo of what they would look like installed ??? Is it an eye sore ???

The Dzus fasteners are the same as on the panel you take off to check the oil. I got mine in black and they blend right in.

KurveyGirl.com has the best prices. Make sure to get the 14mm (for plastic) because the 12mm won't work.

Educational opportunity for me on Druz fasteners. What is the part number for the fasteners? On my :spyder2: the panel that comes off to check the oil has metal D rings with a screw like bolt. They go into the metal clips and take about 1/4 turn to secure them. I understood that What i have arent standard, thus my question as to what the Druz look like. Are you using these Druz in place of all the black torx bolts? Thanks.
