• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

new model 2013

The bigger the better ..... not smaller!

If I were going to buy a Spyder now, and I love the look of the new ones but nothing else done except for some cosmetics, I'd want a bigger cc engine. I don't really care about the gas mileage. I drive cars that suck down gas so it doesn't matter to me.

I want fun, I want more fun and I want some tunes, but I still want the "sporty" look like the rs already has. I like the RT but it's in a class of it's own and it's not my type of Spyder. I think it's great for a tourer but I'm not in the "touring" mode yet. I still want the sport look but give me some kick butt speakers and some tunes in a nice compact fairing w/ some storage.

When I want to relax, I ride with HDX and listen to the tunes and drift off into la la land. But when I ride my own, I want to play and music and a bigger engine would be nice, along with a small fairing. Like the corbin fairings are cool - but add tunes, amp, speakers, some type of front pouch to put your ez pass in or your smokes, whatever.

:popcorn: .02 more. Agree with all the points made about what is needed if the engine is smaller. My vote would be for bigger engine availability on the current configuration; which perhaps would give better mileage due to hp/weight ratio stuff. BRP should watch the price though--I would not be willing to pay a premium of 2-3K or larger. They are already priced at the "ouch" point.

Well if it becomes bigger, I'm sure it will inflate in price.

Look at what Harley did to their trike - I love it but no way would I pay all that money for one!

I could see it being a success.

I could see the smaller displacement still being a success.
But what I want is another :cus: gear and some vibration reduction in the driver & passenger handlebars.

You could go this way...

I sure like the looks of this machine.

One more comment: I looked at the new HD trikes before getting the RTS. I was astonished at their price (about 40K for the decked out version with some whistles & bells--like the deluxe back rest and reverse.) The dealer quoted price had nothing to do with mfg. posted MSRP, and that was for something that was not as technology oriented as the RTS.

I really do like the picture of the trike above. I would not mind having that in my stable.

You don't necessarily need to go bigger -- just different configuration of engine. Put in a high-output 4-cylinder and maybe make the reverse electric so you're not loosing a gear. Just take a look at the specs for the T-Rex 1400RR and scale it down to something like using a CBR 1000 engine instead of the 1400.

T-Rex has 197 HP, does 0-60 in less than 4 seconds, and hits 144 MPH with 1.3 lateral G. Weight is 1040 lbs which with the smaller engine, one seat instead of 2, no roll cage, etc, could easily come down to Spyder sized. Granted, T-Rex costs LOTS more -- but we don't need everything it has.

The T-Rex is pretty awsome, but 65 grand and you are basically back in a cage. For 65 grand My vette would kick that thing's butt and I'd still get 28MPG. But that is a bad comparison! I get what you are saying. Same thing with the GG Quad. It's awsome and you get the open air experience, but again, 65 grand? Nope, not me.

The smaller displacement "vehicle" (I will not call it a Spyder!) that BRP is proposing would be a good export product I believe. My first response to it was a bit narrow-minded. And maybe even a more gentle ride for some folks here in North America. I sure wouldn't want one. I want more pwer, more mid-end torque and a :cus: 6th gear most of all! Good call COOLMACHINE. In fact the 2 biggest things the current RS configuration lacks is better suspension and a 6th gear. So basically that means re-working tranny. Not rocket science, really.

If they did that, re-mapped the ECU a little and gave us a "sport" mode on the nanny the RS would be AWSOME! I would trade my current machine to get one of those ASAP!

Everyone, say it with me... 6TH GEAR! 6th GEAR! 6th GEAR!! :ohyea:

Consider this scenario

Downsized RS chassis, about 90% scale with 660cc motor 40mpg. Priced around $10-12K market towards entry level, early 20 yr olds and overseas markets.

Retune the RS to full power 990cc add elect reverse and regain 6th gear. make this into a true sports model.

The RT? it's a touring bike right so let's do away with the underpowered 990 and add a horizontal 1600cc 6 cyl, shaft drive. think Goldwing power and smoothness. make the intercom standard with the audio package.

Should make everyone happy.

I like the way you think Sir. Works for me!! :D

I can see it now. A smaller lighter Spyder Jr with a reduced HP engine. So how do we hotrod this beast with more power. Bigger engine, turbo. :ohyea: The hotrod guys will be in heaven. Pretty soon there will be a Spyder Jr on the streets weighing 200 pounds less with 150HP  under the tupperware scaring little kids and Busa owners. :yikes: (insert evil laugh here)
:spyder:
Gonna need a lot more than 150 hp to scare the Busa owners, at least this one...LOL
