Need recommendations on buying an enclosed trailer

Hello all,

I am in the market to buy an enclosed trailer for hauling our Spyder and a few other bikes once in while as well using it for other duties as needed. I am considering an 8.5'x18' or 20' and have looked at several online.

My desire is torsion axle, brakes on all wheels, radial tires, aluminum frame, seamless one piece roof and screwless side panels. I would like the aluminum frame for the weight savings, but it is not a deal breaker.

Based on your experiences in general, do any of you have a manufacturer and or configuration recommendations? Thanks!!!

Check Wells Cargo, Haulmark, Featherlight, Everlight, Freedom, Hudson Brothers. There are many more.

I have an 8x20 tandem axle w/brakes on all wheels. Seamless top, rivetless side panels. Side access door, rear ramp. I had d rings installed at the factory. Make sure the roof support is at least 18" on center and not the standard 24". Also recommend LED lighting. Prepare to pay a premium.

I am a big fan of Lightning Trailers located in Elkhart, Indiana. They are actually owned by one of the biggest trailer manufacturers Forest River.

They are very good quality but reasonable priced.

I am on my 3rd one in the past 12 years. Started with a 28ft snowmobile trailer, then after selling the sleds a few years later bought a 28ft car hauler for hauling our 4 four wheelers. I sold everything when I moved to Virginia and now have a 6x12 for my previous spyder STS. Not sure if I will use it for my new 2014 RT as the doorway is a very tight fit....but will see when the weather gets warmer to try it out.

"Look" Utility Trailers @ Gold Medal Trailer Sales, Merril, WI

Greetings from a fellow Spyderlover in Park Falls, WI,

Last spring I purchased a steel framed 14', tandem axel, enclosed trailer from Gold Medal, a trailer dealer in Merril, for my RT. Look also makes all aluminum models. If I had it to over again, I would have purchased a 12' single axel that requires no annual tag fee; the tandem axel yearly tag is a whoppin' $80 bucks. Furthermore, I would advise reconsidering paying an extra $150 or so for tandem torsion axels as they tend to wear out tires much faster than the leaf spring configuration. I know this from towing my travel trailer with torsion axles to Alaska six times versus towing my previous travel trailer with spring axles there twice. Assuming accurate alignment, tires on spring axles distribute the weight equally to both tires, not so with torsion axles, I learned. All aluminum is a better choice for Wisconsinites as it stands up to road salt. Though my well constructed Look trailer is very well undercoated from the factory, at the time of purchase, I did not intend to use it during winter months; plus, to upgrade to a 14' aluminum cost over $2,000 dollars, I was told....Hope this helps.
