RT-S vs RT A/C
The wife and I are on the path to buying a Spyder this fall or early 2013. I've had Rick at Cowtown and a saleman at another dealer pretty adamantly state that if I wanted to tow a trailer, the RT-S was really the only option (other than Limited) to consider. Is this really the case?
Rick was great and took my wife and I out on a ride since we don't have our permits and we're more than sold. We both nearly messed our pants when he took it off the outer road and into the ditch to show us how stable it is.
I was less than impressed with their price or the rates for financing. It was pretty much MSRP or nothing on the price. Ted's in Illinois was a full 3k cheaper on the same RT-S; however, Ted's wanted more for the extended warranty and the service at 600 was double Cowtown. 3k is too much money to throw away if all things are equal. We're pretty sure our service will get done at Cowtown but when it comes down to a purchase, price is important. Here's to hoping I can convince Cowtown to match another dealer's price. I'd rather throw business their way. :gaah:
**edited out prices I was quoted.

Really?
The more we thought about it, the more our minds changed but didn't bother to post about it. What's the point? Rick took us out with no helmets as complete motorcycle noobs onto a road and drove us into a ditch several times to demonstrate the "stability". Again, 0 helmets and without really full warning drove us into a ditch. Upon reflection, it was something that, while exciting, isn't wasn't safe or really smart. Also his refusal to budge on anything less than MSRP seemed strange. I think our initial excitement was more over the bike itself and somewhat misplaced onto Rick. We were both excited that this appeared to be a bike we would be able to drive together and we were over enthusiastic. Cowtown is in the middle of nowhere and he had little to lose to teach us to ride on that outer road (see below).
Our other local platinum dealer, let us ride on their course (got it up to 45mph on the straightaway--woo hoo!) on a brand new limited. He spent an hour with us outside in the 95 degree weather teaching us how to ride the bike (both the wife and myself). They were swamped with customers but he stayed by our side the entire time. Even when we told him we should let him get back to the floor he continued to teach us about the bike and practicing Reverse, hard braking, etc. He knew right off the bat we only planned on buying at the start of the new year. When we talked pricing, not only was his sticker price lower, he made no qualms about getting us the bike $2k off list.
To me customer service before the sale is more important than anything. Yes my initial post made it seemed like I'd marry Rick, but after dealing with our other dealer, it really was a totally different experience. We were treated entirely different. Maybe it took that difference to properly reflect back on the whole event? Since both are Platinum dealers, I'm more tempted to buy at the one where we were treated better. I was only asking about Louis to determine if a trip down to visit them was worth it. In the end, it'll cost me as much to get it home in time, money and effort that I'd rather throw the business to the dealer who helped us the most.
Anyone can have a bad day, and we'll go back to actually speak with Len since he was out for the MoGang for their ride when we were last a Cowtown. Who knows, maybe Rick was having an off day with Len being gone having fun with the MoGang

It's hard to discount everyone's rave reviews of Cowtown and our experience in no way is reflective of reality. Like I said, everyone can have an off day. I've received varying treatment from my service manager for my Jeep at different times. And we've all read on these forums where one person has a terrible time with one dealer whereas another member has a stellar interaction with that same dealer.
TL;DR: While soured on Cowtown based upon reflection and experiences with another local dealer, I'll give Len a shot when we pull the trigger. For a purchase as large as this, everyone deserves consideration.
Edit: I'm not trying to start a flame war, talk smack or say any one dealer is bad. Anyone can have a negative experience with the "best". A good experience depends upon many factors. I only wish I had had a chance to work with Len since he seems to be the common thread of a positive experience. I'll be in contact with him in the future.
