• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Key Programming Question

Read the whole thread. I went to home depot on the advice of this thread. I only wanted a key cut to operate the frunk in an emergency.
Thanks anyway

I very much doubt any key cutting place will have the blanks in stock. They just would not sell enough. There are lots of choices online.

For those wanting a cloneable blank, look for Ilco/Silca # ZD23RT5 or JMA # KB-TP05ZA-9-P

There are 2 choices for unchipped keys and there may be more. I used this one.

Many have reported using this one.

This is the key that I received back from keys4uride.

The 2014 uses a different chip than the previous year models. I don't think anyone has yet found a way to clone that one.
You are correct; the chip in the 2014 keys has MUCH stronger Kung-Fu...
You have to track down a suitable key blank and chip (TP-12; I think!), get the key cut for the ignition switch, and TEHN take your new key, ALL of your old keys, and your bike to the dealer...

You are confusing getting an OEM key programmed and a cloned key. OEM keys must be taken to the dealer (or someone with a way to access the programming sequence) in order to add keys.

Cloned keys, on the other hand, do not have to be added to the system. When you clone a key it takes on the attributes on the key it was cloned from. So if I take my original key #1 and get it cloned, whenever I insert the cloned key into the ignition the security system sees key #1.

Bob's not confused. The process he describes is for making a homemade version of the OE key. The TP12 transponder is the one used by BRP for 2014 and is not rewritable. If you want to make a clone of a TP12 you need to use a TPX3/4 transponder.

Normally; I AM confused...
The differences with the security of the 2014 (and later) keys, requires and entirely different approach...
2008 to 2013; you can clone them...

My bad then. Since we were talking about cloning keys, I assumed that you were talking about cloning a 2014 key. Since then I read a thread that you talked about using a non-OEM TP12 key. Did you ever get it to work with your bike?

 No; I could NOT get my assembly of parts to work... :gaah:
BUDS could not read the new key, so I've got to assume that either I didn't have the correct chip, or the chip that I had wasn't any good... :dontknow:
I'm still working on this project! :D

Confusing ain't it. When I looked out of curiosity, I was surprised that one vendor had 6 different TP12's with different part numbers for different applications. So which one.:dontknow:

OK, got it.
2014 is different than all the previous years.
How do I get an additional key for the 2014 ?

keys4urride.com specifically states MY 2008 to 2013.
Thus leaving 2014 out in the cold.
Can I go to Home Depot ?
Is the dealer my only option ?

Currently; I'd have to say "yes".
Pick one up at the dealer.
BUT...
In order to program it; take ALL of your keys, AND your bike along...
It'll require a hook-up to BUDS.

Has anyone drilled a hole in the top of the key itself? Then you could put it on a key chain. Logic tells you that the chip inside the thing, should not eat up all of the plastic.

Yup!

I don't have a picture of it... :opps:
But you go to the "top of the Key", and make your hole right at the point where the black and gray outer coverings meet.

(Take a pin, and probe that area; you'll hit that spot where it'll go right on through...)

Thanks Bob, I did as you suggested and it worked, the key still works. The previous owner had lost one or both of his keys, because the "ring" was on the wrong part. This makes much more sense.
