• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

If you're talking about a 2013 & earlier DESS, and you buy OEM keys from BRP, regardless of if they are cut or not &/or if you also get an ignition that they'll work in, then each of those keys has a different and unique code WHICH WILL NOT HAVE BEEN PROGRAMMED INTO THE NEW DESS UNIT; and I'm pretty sure that to do that, you'll NEED A RED MASTER KEY to program the DESS to accept at least one of those keys, if not both! 😖
 
You don’t need to replace the ignition switch. Only the DESS MODULE. As long as you have a factory chipped key the first time you turn the ignition on that key will be programmed automatically. Any more keys you will need the RED MASTER KEY.
 
If the existing key you have has a chip for the pre-2014 bikes, you'll only need one more key to get up and running.
Buy the DESS module and one additional key. Have that key cut to match the one you have.
When you first use that key to start the bike, the new DESS module will recognize that key and automatically store it's ID.
To add the second key, you'll need one of the Red Master Keys. I'd certainly hope that any BRP dealer from the pre-2014 era would have one of those Red Keys.

I'm ordering part number 710001195 per the dealer which from the info I have gathered is a 2013 DESS.....??

So I won't even need the dealer to program it? I just install the new dess and turn the ignition with the new keys???

Under the front fairing below the head lights. Took off everything the manual said I needed to. I think with all the right side removed and-the air box off, you might be able to get to it. It’s not going to be fun...

If you do this ^ you will end up with JUST ONE key that (might) work.

From there, if you want to add another key that will work with your Spyder, you will either need to use a Red Master Key and program your DESS to accept another; or if you're lucky enough to find a locksmith who can and is prepared to do so, you might be able to get that one key cloned.
 
At one time I worked for a dealership that was owned by a group which had many dealerships around the country. At the time I got this 2010, I was still in contact with with the dealership I worked for, and I got in contact with the service manager of the Can Am dealership. He confirmed that there was no longer a replacement ignition switch available for my year of Spyder. He also confirmed the procedure in the manual for just replacing the DESS module when the ignition is first turned on with a factory chipped key cut from a lock (we used the trunk key and gave it to a locksmith). Once we had a standard key blank cut, we were able to lock everything to make sure the missing key the other owner didn’t lock it up. I ordered new factory keys, the newest DESS module, replaced it, turned on the ignition, and she started right up. It did quit starting after, but it wasn’t a key/DESS issue, the fuel pump had gone bad. I did find that the dealership here still had a RED MASTER KEY and could program the extra keys. Been back on the road since 2018.
