Inaccurate speedometer / thermometer / clock

My 2014 Spyder RT Limited's speedometer is off (compared to the speed on the GPS) 2 mph . The thermometer is always off by 7 degrees and the clock runs so fast, I have to reset it about every 2 weeks. Is this just mine or are there others of you having the same issue? And does anyone know of a fix? Thanks

All my speedometers have been off by 2 mph fast--calibrated to those "Your speed is....." signs that are in various places on the road.

The thermometer on mine is usually also a couple degrees high. I think that has to do with placement in the engine compartment area.

Clock picked up about 7 minutes during the winter "sleep" 11/2 -- 4/5 or so.

Don't know if there is a fix--I know what it is, so tolerate it. Neither the mph or the temp matters to much to me--IMO. :thumbup:

Every bike made is off by 2 - 5 mph unless it is a police bike with a calibrated speedometer. GPS speed is as close as you'll come to being calibrated. I've known people with bikes speed being off 4 & 5 mph.

As for he time, it just seems like BRP can't make one that stays on time and needs to be adjusted constantly.

This is common to all motor vehicles to some extent. It has a lot to do again with a liability issue. Most new vehicles are out by up to 10% and usually register fast, so your actually going slower than the 75 mph that your speedo shows.

Mine is similar. The digital speed is off by around 3mph but the analog speedo seems right on (compared to GPS). Time does run fast and temp is alway high. I often ride with a Goldwing and sometimes my temp is as much as 10 deg hotter than his which I believe to be much more accurate.

I use them all as a reference. The only one that needs help is the clock. Wonder ifor the overall engine run time is off...??:dontknow:

2014 RTs, same issues you have.

The clock runs fast, and this is on account that the speedometer is 2 mph slower than indicated. So you leave early based on the screwed up clock, and arrive on time since the screwed up speedometer makes you late.

As for the temp, well it's a motorcycle so Can Am figures, if you need sunscreen it's a sunny day, if you get wet it's a rainy day, if you are cold the screwed up thermometer will be reading high letting you think it is really warmer, and if you re hot, the screwed up temp will indicate really hot.

To solve the problem, you could buy a cheap wateproof watch and secure it to the handlebars, buy a Garmin to know true speed and very accurate time. As for the temp, no answer.

Now for a solution to the speedometer /odometer imperfection.......when you need a new rear tire get this size 215/65-15 and it will be almost perfect to the GPS reading .......Mike :bbq:

We have had a 2008, 2010 and now a 2014 RTS. Basically same "issues". Issues to some. I have the ultimate solution...I wear a watch, if I am cold I wear more layers, if I am hot I peel off, my speedometer I set it at 73 mph and ride. The reason we have a Spyder is to get away from all the technics (computer, TV, smart phone, etc) and try and enjoy nature and life. The only thing we have added to the 2014 RTS is the old RDL seat from the 2010 and the trunk LED brake light. We don't need an excuse or a reason to ride. We just need a Spyder to get use where we are going and get us back home. We try to stay simple, worry less and smile as we ride. 116,000 miles on the combined Spyders and never left stranded. That's a LOT of smiles.

Ya many a thread on this :gaah::chill: Is within acceptable % variance for manufacturer & NHTSA:banghead: the gps also has a clock you can use great when crossing time zones:firstplace:
as far as temp:dontknow: The sensor placement sucks & can be quite fickle in hot open parking lots:yikes: Plenty of aftermarket additions you can mount device or ignoreopcorn:opcorn::doorag:& enjoy the rest that works:firstplace:

It's a Can AM Spyder, not a Goldwing or a BMW. BRP hasn't been in the motorcycle (trike) making business long enough to get things right yet. Just wait until the three the wheel competition starts putting pressure on BRP. Until then you just have to take your spyder for what it is. Most of us who own'm live'm, and until someone comes along with a better one we'll all be SpyderLovers. There is a three wheeled 180 hp 50 mpg leaning reverse trike about to come on the market that has an adjustable speedometer, and an adjustable thermometer and an atomic clock. That may be just what you are looking for.

my 2015 has the same problems, I thought it was BRP's way of telling me not to be bothered by the little things, look around and enjoy the ride! :yes::yes:Which I will if it ever stops snowing in Michigan!!!:yikes:

Because all three are reported on the same part (the cluster).
It is logical to think perhaps there is a problem with it.


My first reaction was pretty much that of most respondents.

The problems are well known and apparently accepted.
I wonder why?
These are three separate problems.
All of which could be solved with the month's time of a couple of engineering interns.

I wonder why BRP chooses to ignore such things.
