• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Inaccurate speedometer / thermometer / clock

It's a Can AM Spyder, not a Goldwing or a BMW. BRP hasn't been in the motorcycle (trike) making business long enough to get things right yet. Just wait until the three the wheel competition starts putting pressure on BRP. Until then you just have to take your spyder for what it is. Most of us who own'm live'm, and until someone comes along with a better one we'll all be SpyderLovers. There is a three wheeled 180 hp 50 mpg leaning reverse trike about to come on the market that has an adjustable speedometer, and an adjustable thermometer and an atomic clock. That may be just what you are looking for.

BRP may not have been in the trike making business long enough yet, but they sure know how to price their products like they've been in the business 200 years. You'd think that for a $31k vehicle you could get a clock that keeps better time than a kid's $5 watch. I know, I know, you don't buy the Spyder for the clock, but hey, the stuff that comes with it should work!

ya think?
These really are only problems, if you allow them to worm their way into your day...
I'll always wear a wristwatch, drive two mph under the speed limit, AND remain smart enough, to figure out if I'm hot or cold without looking at a thermometer. :D

Yeah, but can you chew gum while doing al that?

Tooooo small

The temp and clock readouts are Toooooo small for me to read while moving---- so I just ignore them. Don't really care about the accuracy of the speedo as I'm usually over by a fair margin and KEEPING MY EYES ON THE ROAD AHEAD. The traffic here usually is 5 to8 MPH over most of the time. That 2 second glance at the clock at 70MPH is close to 200feet:yikes: ( Bob, please feel free to correct my poor math)

Kaos

( 205.4 feet )

In one sense you are 100% correct and obviously most people agree, as really do I.

The Speedometer thing is probably done on purpose for regulatory reasons so for me, that gets a pass.

However, given the absolutely massive BRP Engineering department and the unquestioned scope of the problem (near 100%) then it does seem that even as a matter of pride, something would have been done by now.

But it doesn't bother me because I get all the info I need from the GPS (my original response to this thread)

:D But it IS fun to watch the GPS and speedometer "Slug it out"! :D
Is it 53, or 55 mph?? :dontknow:
I'm normally happy if I'm just on the right road! :2thumbs:

I have read that.
Personally I have absolutely no idea why people seem to have a problem.

I think you can get an aftermarket combination sundial/weather rock/abacus ( for adding 2 to your mph) that will correct all these problems.

The good side to this thread: We are picking nits instead of discussing major breakdowns happening with the :spyder2::ani29:.

However, I do agree that for the money charged, BRP should get it right or as close to right as possible, at least for two out of three. We mostly understand the speedometer error built in. :bbq::bbq::bbq:

To me unless the temperature gage is on red, dont bother me! The speedometer dont bother me either cuz I won't get a ticket for driving 2 or 3 miles under or over the speed limit! And the clock? I'm never in a hurry, cuz if I have a limited time to get there, I will not take mi bike! If it doesn't bother me to go back 1 hr in the fall, it sure not gonna bother me loosing 2 minutes on my bike clock! Oh, I almost forgot, I dont belong to the 1330 club! I ride a rt 13!

I guess that I look at it this way:
For them to give me a more accurate clock: How much MORE am I willing to pay? :dontknow:

2010 RTS-SM5
I moved my temp/pressure sensor to the protected area of the right wheel well, just inboard of the coolant reservoir. Now, ample fresh air reaches the sensor, and the readings are dead on (as far as I can tell). It even changes with hitting those "cold spots" in low lying areas. Im thrilled with the accuracy!
My speedo seems accurate, or +/- 1 within what my GPS says.... The clock....hahahaha.... I just adjust on Sundays....
