I just finished my first installation of accessories to my 2024 RTL. After asking question here on the forum, I purchased various accessories. Without a manual to follow (2024 RTL Service Manual not available) it was Youtube, dealer instructions and guess work.
1. Installed handlebar riser (LaMonster) and dual power plate (Slingmods). Make sure you have the longer bolts package if you install a riser with the power plate! The power plate has the 12v and double USB outlets. The USB ports are used to power my GoPro and GoPro remote. The 12v will be used TBD. Added the Garmin XT2 GPS onto the power plate.
2. Now for the real issue, removing the side plastic to get to the body to run the wire. Youtube was my instructions, but still trial and error. Make sure you have the correct tools to remove the pushpins located on the frunk. Laid out all the plastic on a blanket with the screws and pushpins.
3. Both the power plate and GPS power wires I attached to the right side electrical accessory port using Slingmods quick connects that came with the power plate. I needed to purchase an additional connector kit from Slingmods to add the GPS power line. This connection allows for key turn on/off of both units.
4. I decided to install a fuse box to attach all addition accessories, this allows a simple location for replacement of fuses. Also, this only requires ONE wire connection to the battery. The fuse box sits on top on the frunk, behind the front plastic cover. Easy access!
5. I purchase running lights from Slingmods, they attach to the fenders and make them dynamic. Good instruction and video on Youtube for wiring harness with switch. Follow the instruction on mounting the lights to the hardware onto the fenders, run your provided wiring as required. I purchased a toggle switch to replace the dummy which matched the three toggle switches on the breast plate. I had to cut/add the battery wires to extend to the fuse box. Test your circuit with a meter! I added yellow cover cups to the lights (2") that I purchased from Clearwater, same size as their lights on my BMW1600. Yellow is more visible than white for people to see. I remove the cups to run in the dark.
6. I purchased a 6' 16 awg wire with a SAE connection to use for my heated clothing and portable handheld compressor/inflator I use on trips to inflate my tires. Connected to the fuse box and ran wire to locate under the breast plate under the front seat. I had purchased a power port that I was going to drill into the breast plate, but decide just to put the wire under the seat
7. I purchased a backrest from Utopia, it came with good instructions. My only issue was finding the push levers to remove the passenger seat. Installing the frame bracket was easy if you follow the instruction. Reinstalled the passenger seat and inserted the backseat. I chose Utopia because RDL does not make a backrest for the 2020+ RDL's. My seat is schedule for Nov to customize.
8. Now for the final install, all the plastic on both sides. Take your time and DO NOT FORCE each piece. It's really easy if you take your time. I say that after I did it, not before.
9. I install my GoPro on the front nose under the windshield. Used an adhesive rock mount and ran the USB power wire under the windshield back to the power USB located on the handlebars. Used adherent wire management connects along the way. Added thin wire connector to the GoPro with adheres anchor to hold GoPro if mount fails.
10. Added coffee cup C-clamp holder to handlebars and Sena Remote Control to handlebar for easier control.
Next year car tires, shocks and sway bar!
