• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

If you have a Tomtom..better watch out.

Can we retrieve this information for when I let my daughters drive my car? Just think of it now.
Dad to Daughter: Were you going 10 miles over the speed limit?
Daughter to Dad (with innocent look on face): No dad, I would never drive over the speed limit.
Dad to Daughter (pulling out Tomtom): Busted.

But 10mph over is what you're supposed to drive. they assign speed limits assuming people will generally drive 10 over. I've never gotten a ticket going 10 over. 12 over, however...

I routinely drive/ryde 10 miles over, but I told my kids if they get a ticket before turning 18 I will take their license away. Drummed it into their head so much that this weekend my youngest rented a car to see her sister (from NY to PA). She set the cruise, and drove all 5 1/2 hours going 65. Of course she is too cheep to pay a ticket, so that might have been part of it too.

every single cell phone now had build in gps (for tracking) and the ONLY way to truly disable them: Remove your battery.

don't worry about it, just take out your cell battery every time you do something illegal :p:lecturef_smilie:

I thought most GPS units (excluding smart phones, of course) were purely 1-way communication devices? That is, the receive statellite signals but cannot send info because they have no transmitter. Am I wrong on this?

Figure if they know where you are to give you directions, they can record that data as well...don't need a transmitter...

Glad you did that, now she is a great, responsible driver!

I think you actually can - our Nuvi (garmin) has a screen that tells the fastest speed. I'm not sure which screen it is though:dontknow:. But next rainy day you might locate it if you have nothing else to do while waiting for the sun so you can ryde!

I'm going to have to read the directions (shutter) on my Tomtom now.

I learned this from my Mom when I was young. Almost cried when I got pulled over racing in my sister's 74 mustang. Just glad the officer let me go with just a verbal warning, and even with me winning.

They have no idea where you are. The device receives signals from multiple satellites and triangulates your position using those signals, in reference to the stored maps. Pure one way communication.

Smartphones are different because they are always in contact with local cell towers. Thus, you can be trackerd. Moreover, they stamp every photo taken with GPS coordinates, and if you post that photo to the web, a savvy person can figure out where exactly (within a few feet) you were when you took the photo.

nuvi/garmin

It wasn't me......

was my husbands response when I found the screen on the Nuvi/Garmin that shows all the history of the trips..... :yikes:

On the Nuvi it is on the bottom left side that says speed. It brings up a screen that has a lot of interesting info .:D
