• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Hesitates when downshifting

It only does it when downshifting from 2nd the 1st. Doesn't do it all the time either. Sometimes it does great and then sometime if I down shift around 3,000 to 3500 it will not downshift till it gets around 1800 where it will downshift itself. No problems with other gears, just 2nd to 1st. Tried different things, took hand off throttle, kept a little throttle on it, put foot on brake, check oil level and still does it from time to time. Just install a new filter and oil. I did swap it over to Amzoil. Bike is a 10 model RSS SE5 with around 6000 miles on it. It does has the new longer filter also. Hoping someone can shed a little light on it. Getting ready to leave for 3 weeks on the ship.
thanks, david

Thats too high to manually shift down. Don't think you have any problems.

Edited: The folks below are correct. I just got back from a ride and it WILL downshift at 4K with no hesitation. I had never tried it before as 2nd seemed more than adequate.
Sorry for misinformation.

I would respectfully disagree with the comment about it being too high of rpm to downshift. The SE5 in trailer-mode on the RT forces the downshift around that rpm; so shifting in that range is not hurting anything at all. (That is if the BUDS have been updated.)

I consistently downshift in that range without any problems (typically at 3200).

Recently there have been more and more reports regarding the vacuum hoses (associated with the SE5's shifting) cracking and breaking causing a vacuum-leak. You may very well be at an early-stage of that happening. Check them. That is the easiest first-step (given what all you have said).

After that, then you may need to look at other components, such as the shift-sensor (although, typically these have been reported to simply "go-out", rather than gradually fault).

Good luck... let us know your outcome.

Did you get the cramps worked out of your index finger yet? :yikes: :roflblack:

This sure could be an indication of the vacuum lines starting to get cranky with old age...
I've also got a 2010 model, and the next servicing is going to include some instructions about replacing those lines...

On my 09GS when it starting doing as you describe it was time for an oil and filter change. Are you close to oil change time?
I down shift at 3000 and a lot higher all the time. That is not your problem.

Back on the ship at present. Will check the vacuum lines when I return home. Hopilng this is the problem. I downshifted the other day at 3500 and it acted like it was out of gear. Will check different things once I get back home.
thanks, david
