• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Please excuse the long post. On another post I mentioned that I was having the steering lock-up problem that others were having. I also said that I would give the Dealership and BRP one chance to correct the problem before I would report it to NHTSA. I rented a trailer and took my Spyder to a Dealership near Houston on 2-13-10 and went back home. At 3pm that day the dealership called and said they had done the recall work and also the updates. They also said that It needed rear brake pads which they would install for approx. $170.00 . This surprised me because about 10 days earlier I had installed a new rear tire and the pads were fine! I told them no thanks!! When I arrived on 2-16-10 to pick it up,the first thing I asked the Service Manager was-- DID THEY TAKE IT FOR A TEST RIDE?? He says NO because it needed brake pads !! I asked him again and when he saw that I was annoyed he looked at the invoice and said OH,WAIT I guess they did ride it because the Tech. made a note that said : STEERING ROUGH BUT DID NOT LOCK-UP!!! When I checked the mileage I noticed that my Spyder had only gone 1/10th of a mile! SOME TEST RIDE!! It was also covered in dust dirt and water spots from being left outside. If I wanted it parked outside I would have torn down my garage!! To make a long story longer,I get approx. 5mi. from the Dealership and the steering starts to lock-up again. Rather than go back to this Dealership I nurse it home for 52mi. constantly fighting the steering. I call the dealership and the Serv. Manager says to bring it back. I say NO, I'm reporting this to NHTSA. Approx. 20min. later the TECH. calls and says to bring it back and he will change a module or relay or something (At this time I'm having trouble concentrating). I say NO, I dont want them throwing parts at it 'till something sticks. Then he says he wasn't actually ready for me to pick it up and that the Service Manager Shouldn't have called me to!! TOTAL B.S. !! Hello NHTSA and whomever will listen!
 
Sorry about your steering problems. I know how a lock up feels and it's not fun!

Definitely report it to the NHTSA. I got a new dps in mine,. haven't ridden it long enough to tell if it works or not but others on here will tell you it solved their problems. I can't say yes or no. I'd rather have BRP tell me what the problem is once they find it. Until then, I'm not riding it very far once season comes.

You could try a new dps but we'll have to wait for BRP to confirm that it was indeed the DPS. So if the dealer wants to throw one in, have the dealer pick it up, put one in and deliver it back to you at no charge.

Just let them do what they have to, unless it is the dealer that you don't like, that's really your only option. Mine also had 3 DPS put in before code stopped. Haven't rode it yet to see it sticking stopped.

I finally had to report mine to the NHTSA. It was remarkably easy to do.

The last fix for the problem was BRP techs telling me to change the battery.

Of course these same people told me to run 20w50 oil in my motor to fix the low oil pressure problem.
 
I wonder if like on "WHEEL OF FORTUNE" when you want to "buy a vowel" maybe BRP could "BUY A CLUE" on how to fix this problem the first time everytime?

Two and three DPS units to correct this problem is crazy!

If there are that many bad DPS units in their parts inventory they need to recall them as well and stop installing these questionable units as replacements.

When dealing with something like this repairs need to be able to be done in a flawless manner the first time for everyone's sake.

I am sure the poor dealers are at their wits end with no real answers being given to them ether on how to fix this the first time, everytime.

Now you got a new ride try to remember those of us you left behind are still not out of the woods regarding all of this.

Nobody would have to beat this "dead horse" if these items were being taken care of in a timely manner.

But, I guess BRP thinks we all have countless hours of free time to make many return trips to the dealer for this problem, more or less tons of free cash to leave tied up for weeks or months in a unit while they are held hostage at the dealership awaiting repairs.

Not to even mention missing the limited riding time we all get here in North America. They must think we're all rich and gonna live forever, so what's the rush? What's a few weeks or even months among friends? :dontknow:

Very soon it will be almost a YEAR that this DPS issue has been spoken of and then even an offical recall and can anybody really tell me we're any better off than we were before this all started?

OK, maybe I am just being mean here, but I know RoadDog is a good sport:

Harley Tri-glide recall info :doorag: including this line "...condition may cause a fuel leak at the weld of the front bracket to the tunnel..."
 
I agree - we are not out of the woods yet. Roaddog had quite a few problems w/ his Spyder - he really tried to hang in there but he and Pat like to take trips and he didn't want to take any chances of having something else go wrong, especially w/ a passenger. I don't ride w/ any passengers but I'll tell ya I'm not going to put up with this if my steering starts up again, or if the coolant bottle cracks, or if it catches on fire, or whatever else will happen to a not even 2 yr old machine w/ like not a whole ton of mileage on it.

First let me say that I really enjoy riding the Spyder and have met a lot of nice people that also enjoy riding theirs,BUT after my recent experience with the Dealership AND not seeing any concrete evidence as to what BRP believes is causing the problem, my Spyder will be staying in my garage not outside at some Dealership . I will be monitoring this site and others and IF I see that the problem has been resolved and that BRP has explained what the problem was AND that it is a permanent fix,not a BAND-AID, THEN a Dealership can take another shot at fixing it!! The riding weather is already good here in Texas and before you know it the temps. will be really uncomfortable. My factory 2 year warranty should be good until October but hopefully a FIX is near at hand.

He is a good sport and I'll bet he's not offended...he was obviously very well aware of that point and I'm sure HD is fixin' them all up quickly!

As far as a meal vs. a donut goes....I'd go with the meal...donuts are filling but not the most nutritionally dense foods! :D
 
I would find another dealer. I think a huge part of the problem is that there seem to be alot of dealers out there who don't have a clue. If I was a service manager in a shop that had a Spyder sitting for months for repair you wouldn't need to nag me about it. I would want it repaired and out of there. New technology takes some training and it appears that is not happening in many places.
