Hi guys, I just got a 2010 Can-Am Spyder RSS with 1400 miles. Its my first bike and I love riding it. I am just getting use to switching gears. I just ordered a VooDoo Exhaust. What do you guys think? Is it okay to ride in 2nd gear because there is alot of stop signs? I live in los angeles and I constantly have to stop at either stop sighn or red light so I dont get a chance often to go to 3rd gear. On the freeway I am usually 4th gear, is that correct? I would appreciate any help. Thank you guys

There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Kia ora mate and congratulations on your new Spyder. The Spyder, unlike some other V-twins I could mention loves rev's so you'll not do it any harm running it in low gears. I'll often keep mine in 2nd when in built-up area's and only switch it into 3rd when I can see I'll be at the same speed for a while. I'm guessing the traffic speed is similar to what your experiencing, worked in LA and Santa Ana about 10+ years ago but can't really remember what the traffic was like
I'll also often also keep in 4th on the open roads when the speed is varying because of traffic so I can react and get past things quickly when a chance arrives. Mind you our highways are a maximum of 2 lanes each way, most of them are single lane each way so a little bit different from yours
One thing I will say is the Spyder excellent at carving through traffic. Though you can't line split like you can on a bike the ability to switch lanes rapidly with instant 'presence' make up for that. Don't know what it's like in the states but I also find drivers here will often move out of the way to let me past (probably so they can have a proper look at this weird vehicle) something I've not had on a bike.

to both the roadster world and this site. Congrats on your fine choice of model spyder. You are doing fine keep your rpm up there. Manuals do't have as much of a problem with the clutch but the semi automatics need to be over 3,500 rpm's to have the clutch operating at its best...enjoy your new ryde..:thumbup:

:welcome: It takes a bit of getting comfortable with the higher RPM requirements on the 998 Rotax engine.
Most recommend a 5500 or so shift point. In traffic under 30 mph--that could mean first gear operation. Not a problem--but takes some getting comfortable with it.
We don't make it to 5th gear until 65 mph in most cases.

n your new RSS, I have an RS and it loves the high RPM. When I in town I am mostly is 2nd gear and at times in 3rd gear. Just make to check your oil level after about 300 to 400 miles, the SE's dont operate correctly when the oil gets low... Any congrats on your new :spyder2:.... Have fun and enjoy!!!!!!
