New Spyder owner for 6 weeks. Loving every second of riding. Have ridden over 400 miles in city and freeway in San Diego County. Just joined forum. Thanks to all those that helped with CA engine serial number issue. Resolved.
My ST had one owner, only serviced at one shop/dealer in Lost Wages. Always ran factory recommended tires, oil, etc. 998, SE5, upgraded new brakes and suspension. All new tires, belt, and pulleys. No engine upgrades. I don’t have shop records yet.
This Spyder ran like clockwork for 5 weeks. I was used to the little clunk when shifting to 1st and reverse. No big deal.
I did a short 2-mile morning ride, no issues, and parked for over an hour at local CHP to get engine # verified. I removed 3 covers and the officer and I poked around for 30 minutes to find number. Put the covers back on, fired her up, shifted to reverse and holy cow! A totally different Spyder. Lightly revved the still warm engine and the clutch started hard bucking trying to engage. Shut off, restarted fine, engine idle smooth, and same thing going into first. Trans would not engage. Figured out that by going slightly downhill I could get it into gear.
I nursed her home, never going above 3rd gear, and keeping the RPMs up. Shifting between 2nd and 3rd was OK while moving, but downshifting was interesting. No big bumps, but it felt like the gears were not being synced down correctly.
Completed checking all to see what got moved or disconnected while we poked around. Oil checked per book procedure. Fine. Disconnected battery for 20 min. Reset. Saw 2 codes both related to 02 sensor, bank 1. I am curious about a vacuum issue but haven’t replaced anything.
Sorry for the short story, but I’m hoping one of you brilliant Spyder experts can give me some more ideas. My local Spyder tech is on Vacation until the 30th, otherwise my poor Spyder would already be there.
Help. Thanks.
