In December, I took Nancy's 2008 Spyder to the dealer in my trailer, to have the steering recall and the engine performance update done. I never got a chance to test when we brought it home, merely fishtailing across the ice and snow to tuck it in the shed for the winter. Today I got it out of mothballs, and went out and rode 40+ miles, to give it all a test. Excellent results! The steering is maybe a little easier than before at low speeds, but is tight, precise, and even without that little "twitch" idling at a stop, that it had before. The engine runs every bit as strong as before, and seemingly stronger. Maybe the gas mileage will even improve, at long last. No sign of surging or any bad behavior. So far, so good!
The best part is that the variable idle, sometimes as high as 3,500 rpm, and seldom below 1,800 rpm unless completely stopped (???) seems to be gone, too. Before, the idle would hang when you backed off the throttle and pulled in the clutch. It did not idle down until you stopped moving, and sometimes not even then. Now it returns to idle immediately. This has been going on for the better part of two years, so as you can imagine, I am quite pleased. I love to receive an unexpected bonus!
