Front End Vibration ?

Questions

New member
I just purchased a 2013 LTD and the front end shakes so bad at about 50 miles an hour, Any one else ever experience this issue ? The Dealer had originally said that I had a sensor bad in the air shock that was causing the problem but evidently that wasn't the fix, any ideas?

I had this problem on my 2011 RT Limited and it turned out to be a bad front tire. The front end would vibrate and wobble between 45 and 50 mph regardless of what gear or RPMs. Also, may sure you are running the correct tire pressure. Have the dealer swap tires to see if that corrects the problem.

Find a dealer with some sense!

Look for the following:

1- out of balance tire
2- front end alignment
3- bad tire

I have to agree with others. Time to find a new dealer. Any dealer who thinks the air shock, which is on the rear, can cause front end vibration does not deserve your business. If I were you, I'd try either Florida Motorsports in Naples or Action Jet Sports in Bradenton.

YES, been there done that. I bought my 2013 RTS in May 2013. It was good until it reached around 48 to 50 MPH. It vibrated so badly it hurt my wrists to drive it. Took it back to dealer. They drove it and said it was not bad. It was suppose to do that. No way! This ain't my first rodeo. This is my second Spyder. They replaced the front tires. No more vibration. Change your tires!!

Thank you all for your comments & suggestions, Originally they said I had a sensor bad causing the air shock not to shut off I guess, at least that's what the dealer said :) I'm taking it in tomorrow morning.

Well now after having my new Spyder about a week and it being in the shop what will be three days if they even bother to show up to get it :( I'm really to the point I want my 2012 back ! The shop had the attitude they didn't want to mess with it any further. Poor customer service !

Do not walk - but run from that dealer. There are other dealers out there that know how to treat a customer.

It's always a tire problem that causes this.

:agree: Go back and read the threads on front end vibration. Almost every case is resolved with tire replacement. I replaced my tires at 5500 miles. That was 6000 miles ago and have had no vibration since.

I can relate

My 2012 RTS is at the shop as we speak. I'm picking it up today. They said the 45-55 mph wobble was due to the wheel, which they replaced off of another they had on their showroom floor. They say it's resolved. I hope so. If not... I'll be back. Update to my post: Dealer said it was the tire after all, replaced, much better although not entirely gone, it's livable. These are new Can-Am tires, I expected better. The dealer said that my brake pedal felt soft and he wanted to keep it and see what that's about. I test rode his and I agree, mine is soft so he's working on it. Another peculiarity as the pads were replaced last week. Do find another dealer if yours isn't working for you.

I was out on a ride yesterday and the vibration was so annoying that I stopped at a dealer to have them look at it. Come to find out none of the tires had been balanced and if they had been balanced at the factory all the weights had either been removed or were non existent to start with. Made a big difference on the ride home but needless to say the fronts are going to have to be replaced. Now getting the dealer to do his job :( after listening to them complain and say they had balanced the tires.

I just had mine balanced yesterday and what a difference it made for me. I also found out the dealer probably did a bubble balance. I'm taking mine to a tire shop that does speed balancing. That's the best way to go.

:agree:, I've had my '12 RTS since May and right off the show room floor it had that vibration up front. I read the various threads on vibration issues and in each case where the person replaced the front tires it cured the issue. I also read time and again about how people had their alignment redone and tire re-balanced and still not finding satisfaction. One of my buddies had his tires replaced recently and was raving about how much of a difference it was to the positive.

This past week I set up an appointment and went to my dealer at Central Fla. Power Sports. The ride there from my house is 109 miles. I had just over 1500 miles on my RTS and already could not stand the bad vibes. They installed per my request 2 Bridgestone Potenza 165 65 14 tires at $105.00 each mounted and balanced. A total of $360.00. Not too sure if that was a good price though I think the tire price was fine itself. Well all I can say is that to me, it was money well spent because on the return home ride, the bike rode FANTASTICALLY!

The vibrations were gone. The fenders stopped dancing at between 40-50 mph, the handle bars weren't shaking out of my hands and my hands didn't go numb in the process. The bike tracked in a nice straight line even when I would take my hands off of the bars for a few seconds. The only changes to the front end when I got the bike was to crank the shocks up to their highest setting and add the BajaRon Sway bar. Now the new tires were added without all the BS re-aligning or re-balance money and time waste and WhaaaLaaa.... Problem solved.

I cannot be happier with the way it rides now. Since the tires went on, I've ridden almost 400 miles and all 400 have been Smoooooth and now since my wife took a ride on it, she's all fired up about getting them put onto her RT Lmt so I'll be setting up and appointment to have hers done along with the rear tire that's ready to be replaced at just shy of 13,000 miles? :dontknow:

:lecturef_smilie:I can't believe that BRP doesn't just change the tire supplier to another brand and drop those crappy KENDAS. I also think that it's a shame that we have to go out and solve all these issues ourselves and at our expense. We (The Customers) should NOT be having to do all the R&D on these machines yet that's exactly what we end up doing all the while trying to stay positive and promote these machines (though I do like talking about them when asked by people in my travels)

BTW, my dealers service dept is a Top shelf operation. and the dealership as a whole is as well so those in and around the Kissimmee Fl area should give them a try.

Which part of "find another dealer" didn't you understand?

Well Finally the New Rubbers on, going to take it for a ride here in a bit and see how we do ! Thanks Can-Am for the Help in this Matter :) Still taking it to Orlando to have the Laser Done. I'll post more later and maybe it will be all for the good ! ImageUploadedByTapatalk1381339412.369662.jpg

After adjusting the fronts to 18 pounds I think most of my vibration problem is gone. Had to get the info from The shop in Naples, my dealer didn't have a clue and are still going off the old settings of 14 lbs.

I have always been told, that most front end vibration is due to improper wheel balancing or unequal tire pressure.

For a tire to cause that kind of problem, the tire would have to be warped or broken wires in the steel belt.

If the trike pulls from one side or the other, that would be front end wheel alignment.
