• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

First Ride of 2014 RT

Here I go jumping in...

I've gotta say that in this day and age, nothing is unbiased. If you read online reviews of a product or establishment, many of them are written by the owner or family of the establishment or product that have "glowing" words of praise, of course. My point being...anybody wanting to know the "real deal" with a product will research and take an amalgamation of opinions, not just one. When buying my 2013 ST-L (which I am VERY happy with btw), I researched over 2 years. Went on dealer test rides of all the models, and talked to anyone I ran into who was riding one. When asked, I too will "sing the BRP Praise Song"...but I will also explain that like any other high end machine, care must be taken, and that like any other performance machine, they are succeptible to certain things such as heat (My Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GSX had aluminum heads and they were known to crack).

Any line of machine that uses moving parts is going to have some succeptibilities...but if the product itself is a sound one, it will thrive and grow exponentially in sales. The Spyder is such a product...IMO.

Exactly, When the 13's first were reviewed they were met with Glowing reviews by the hand picked testers, Then after the civilians got them and started to ride and put some miles on them, The S**t hit the fan...

:agree: What was up with That??? It had me going crazy to try and figure a way I could get an ST?? I,m Lucky the Sh't started to hit the fan before I took a test drive and I feel Lucky to Not Have a Problem Spyder!!nojoke

So there was something good about the 2013 models after all! I am still locked into the dark ages of 2011 cos that's what I ride. Canceling the turn signal on my Spyder was/is, (ahem), "troublesome". You may have seen comment hereabouts to that effect... :f_spider:

I'm sorry I wasn't clear but the button was the same on the 2013 as it was on all the other years. We will still have that to complain about. :roflblack:

Most of these testers rode for a few hours at best. Not enough time for any real problems to surface. The master cylinder is not likely going to melt on a test drive in Quebec. Also these were pre-production units that may or may not have had different components then the actual production units.

When I pick up my 14 next month I will be going cross country. MO to TX and back to NC. I should have a pretty good review when I return.

2014 RT

I have been watching this site for the last 6 months and I must say it is the most informative and friendly site I have visited. I turn the big 70 this coming May. And I plan on easing the shock by buying a 2014 RT Limited. The hard part is waiting. It almost makes my want to get older. Can't wait to get one.

I am sure that you will love the Spyder. I won't go back to anything else.

That's a fair first ryde!! Can't wait for your opinions on the new beast!

Should be right around 1500 miles before I get home. I'll be blogging the trip.

When I bought my 2011 RT 1500 miles was half way to a routine oil change. But things are better now, 1500 miles is a third the way to a routine oil change. :roflblack:

Very true. It will be 1/2 way to first service as well. But should give me enough to post about.

Best unbiased review

Wouldn't it be interesting if Consumers Union (Report) did a review of the any Spyder? Of course, it won't happen, but, their scientific techniques for putting cars to the test is really what I look for in any review. The CU has also been responsible for initiating many vehicle safety recalls in the past decades.
As others have noted, many reviews have alot of fluff, but few seem to present pros and cons from a truly neutral viewpoint. As consumers we often buy with our hearts and the Spyders attributes do pull at those strings, and I am enjoying those positives as a ryder myself.
In the meantime, as consumers, it is in our best interests to look with a critical eye at evaluations and reviews from any source, and I personally welcome a a well presented perspective on, or critique of any review. Let's not shoot the messenger.

Come on demo trucks

I'm ready for the demo trucks to come back in town. Love to test ride without the high pressure sales push.

Consumers Union , Buys all the vehicles they test off the showroom floor ''Anonymously''
