Do you let anyone else drive your Spyder?

I have let my Dad, Step Dad and a good friend of my Dad's try it and 3 or 4 of the police officers at work took it for a spin, but that's it. I haven't let any of my younger friends try it though. How about you all? Does anyone else get to drive your Spyder?

I have and will let select people ride my Spyder. It's a confidence thing. I need to feel that they know what they are doing, that they are responsible and that they will treat my things as good or better than they treat their own.

Absolutely not. Sorry, don't intend to be a meanee - but it's much too risky. I encourage anyone interested, to see a dealer and ask for a demo ride. Dealers are set-up for this kind of thing by screening etc. Plus they have the proper insurance policy for such things.

Only biggest brother, but he's ridden every m/c i've had. I finally just put him on my insurance. But he just moved up to a Vstar 1100 so he probably won't be using the spyder much anymore. I'm not sure about letting anybody else ride, it hasn't come up yet.

I do not. I will at some point let my Dad ride, because I know he wants to, which I'm ok with. However, his first ride will be in parking lot with me, going over the practice drills.... the Spyder is nothing like a two-wheel bike, which is what he is used to. As such, best to start off with the basics for a while to get a feel for things.

I haven't yet, but I have an old roommate I met in 1973 right after we were both discharged. He's been in the bike business like me and does all my aluminum welding. He wants to wait until the weather is warmer...he admits he's becoming a wuss. I'm headed over tomorrow for the software update, about an hour each way and the weather is supposed to get in the 50s...at least for a day:2thumbs:. Other than him, not likely. I don't let too many people drive/ride any of my vehicles.

I have let a couple of disabled guys give my Spyder a try in a parking lot - so they could see if they could handle or like it. ( I rode along and operated the brake )

Nobody else has asked. I do let a lot of kids, and anyone else who is interested, sit on it.

I am kind of in the same place as Brian, to let someone take it out for a spin, it would all depend. I would probably not have a problem with another Spyder owner wanting to see if there was a difference in steering or braking from theirs.

In general, it is not about the Spyder, my concern would be for the person's safety.

Never let anyone borrow it, but have let a few people take it for a short test spin. People I trust of course. Also, let a friend take it for a nice ride while I rode Brian's and another took it for a spin with me on the back. People I know and trust, never for any extended period of time though, and not where I couldn't see them.

My wife Julie nicks it now and again, plus ive let a few good mates have a go......got to show off eh.
The usual rules apply, you break it you own it......its insured and although lots of fun it is still just an object. still love it though.:doorag:

I've let several people try the bike...not a concern. If you have a motorcycle, you are going to respect someone else's wheels. The Spyder can't be dropped and if you are familiar with the clutch and brakes, it's pretty hard to do anything wrong...what's the fear?

I've let two biker friends take it for a spin and both came back with smiles on their faces and now have a different opinion of this 3 wheel concept. Both were surprised with the power the Spyder has and one said a Spyder could be in his future as he is getting up in age, with physical problems and finding his chopper harder to hold up at stop lights.

my speech is , " you break it, you buy it, you got about 20k?" and I let everyone who see as able to understand how to ride or what the risk is ride it, I better over 40 people have drove my spyder.

I find people that do not let other riders ride their bikes are limiting who gets into our little piece of heaven.


Maybe it was growing up poor with 12 siblings who did not have all the cool toys that the rich kids used to drive around and horde, to me experience is the most important thing you can give people. If my buddy would not have let me ride his bike I would have had NO idea how much fun rockets are.

I also am find it wierd that people are leary of loaning out their stuff are the first people to not tell you they broke or not to want to fix the stuff that they broke of yours.
