• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Riding my new to me Spyder from Texas to Maine, seat won't stay up & USB port won't charge - anyone else? Any fixes/ideas/help?

Just purchased a 2020 RTL. Super low miles, couldn't pass it up. Instead of having it shipped from Texas to Maine I flew down and am on the first leg of riding it home.

Hoping you guys can help with a couple of things bothering me on Day One. The seat doesn't stay up on its own which makes gassing it up a real pain. Anyone else had that problem? And secondly (I'm sure I'll have more tomorrow), the USB port in the glove box doesn't put out enough juice to charge my Google Pixel 8 Pro. Is it just a cheap cord? Anyone had that problem?

It rides great. This is my third Spyder but my first 1330. Wow, what a difference. Anyway, need to get back on the road to make it to my hotel before dark. I know, I know, it has headlights. But it was 90 leaving Dallas and I'm pooched. Any help with my two issues would be greatly appreciated.

Well you found out about the seat not staying up by it self. You can buy a different strut that is stronger that fits. Lamonster Garage and BajaRon I think, sell the better struts too. USB's, I don't have a clue. Anyway, enjoy your 1330 RTL. It's a nice ride.

Like ned65 said, the seat piston is too weak and can be replaced with a 30# piston. Some just disconnect the piston and carry a stick to prop up the seat.

You'll probably need to install a USB charging port on the handlebars to get enough juice to drive new smart phones.

I keep a champagne cork under the seat and use that to prop the seat up when filling. Similarly, I use a small piece of wood on a string to keep the rear trunk lid up.

If you're plugging your phone into the correct place on the Spyder, and your phone is not charging. The fault could be the cable that you're using. If the cable isn't 'up to the task' no charging will take place at all.

This is the cable that I'm using for my iPhone 15 with the Spyder, and it charges and works perfectly.

Amazon.com

This is a USB-C cable, be aware of what type you need for your phone.

From what I just now read on this subject...

You want a cable that is USB-IF certified. The IF certification confirms that the cable has been tested for (among other things) reliable phone charging under all conditions.

You have many accurate replies to the seat problem. Might as well purchase a new heavy duty support piston for the seat and the rear trunk, both are too weak. As far as the charging problem, that is common. I have a 2022 Sea to Sky and discovered that the output in the glove box does not put out enough amps to keep my phone charged when I am using it for music and also GPS. The real solution is to purchase a separate USB output that is 5 volt and puts out enough amps to service the phone. Routing the wire is simple, I just hooked direct to the battery for source and ran the wire out from under the front edge of the glove box. Piece of cake and took about 10 minutes. Now I start the day and run all day on the phone and end with a fully charged phone. There is no other solution.

I'm sure that you saw my reply above. With the correct cable and plugging that cable into the correct place, your phone WILL charge.

On my 2023 F3, my iPhone 15 charges just fine, no matter what app or apps I have running. I have the cable plugged into the USB port that lives inside the glove box above the dash, no issues at all as that USB port is designed for this function.

Your solution above would work too of course but it's a LOT more trouble than just getting the correct cable that's capable of suppling the amount of current needed for charging.

I use the Spyder Extra flip up bracket to hold my seat. I purchased it from Slingmods. It's easy-peasy to install.
As far as charging my samsung phone, I use the usb connection in the glove box. Most of the time it charges my phone sufficiently, but I carry a small portable charger plugged into the usb in the trunk, just in case.

I remember with my 2011 RT that filling the gas to the top caused problems. Has that issue been rectified on the newer models, 2020 and newer?
