• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Do you let anyone else drive your Spyder?

Yep

My dad and two of my brothers and my best friend. My youngest brother was too concerned he might damage it so he didn't want to. A couple others have asked, but I told them no because they are speed demons and I didn't want them to get hurt or my spyder. So, I just use common sense when I let people ride it.

It is not a good idea...

to let others ride your spyder. If your spyder gets damaged it can cause bad feelings among friends and neighbors. ""

The motorcycle safety courses I've been to in various states say "do not loan your motorcycle".

And as stated in some of the posts above... liability can be very high if the borrower gets hurt or hurts someone else. /Ken-krb1945

I have an SE5 (I think this makes a difference) and let people that I really trust ride the bike in confined areas. I have allowed my brother-in-law, son(s), and others within my family with prior experience on a motorcycle and a real healthy appreciation for life. I still worried. The Spyder can be replaced but it would be very difficult to ever forget feeling responsible for having a loved one get hurt.

I've got some biker friends and know which ones to trust. I ask THEM if they want to take it for a ride. Why not share the Spyder experience.:2thumbs:

Nancy & I have let a couple of close friends with vast motorcycle experience try it out. One declined. I have also allowed a couple of very close friends to try out my vintage bikes. By the same token I would never ask to ride another's toy, nor will I accept a ride if offered. I usually point out to anyone interested that demo rides are available...and give them my dealer's location.

Loaning is one thing...a quick ride around a parking lot while riding with buddies is another. IHMO, I think too many of us are paranoid about the bike...any person with experience on a motorcycle will have more than enough capability to ride a Spyder...if it's auto, it's even easier! I let people ride my car if they need to (like my staff)...they don't take it for a weekend, but for quick runs to get office items and such.

I simply don't worry about it...not a big deal...that's what insurance is for (provided the other person has it as well)...

Does everyone here worry about people walking by your front lawn and breaking their ankle? That's a claim too, if something happens...

G-Man is the only one I allow (under certain cercumstances) . He did a test ryde on the RT Demo but not on my newly painted RT yet :2thumbs:

Waiting on the certain circumstances :D

Anyone that knows how to ride a motorcycle can take my Spyder for a spin--- anytime--- I've thrown the keys to perfect strangers and told them to take it for a spin.

I'm the same way with any vehicle I've ever owned.

As far as 'you break it you buy it'..... nah---- that is what we have insurance for. If someone wrecks it--- I'll just get it fixed or get another one.

Insurance issue

My understanding is that my insurance won't cover a rider who's not a family member. Might be worth double checking on that. :dontknow:

I agree with Bone here.... I pretty much let anyone try it around the block/neighborhood that wants to.:2thumbs:

I let my granddaughter drive mine while I followed in the car. She got my dirt bike a few years ago and is very good at riding that. She is 16 and her dad owns a Harley shop so she did a very good job of riding it.

Other than my husband there is only two other people that I would trust to ride my Spyder, both have many MANY years of motorcycling experience with no accidents. I have no problems giving people rides though.

The interesting thing for me is that so far nobody has even asked me this question. I was willing to let the mechanic in Daytona that put on the new taillight lens take it for a spin, as he seemed really interested in doing so, but he declined when I made the offer as he had more work to do.

I let a friend borrow my GSX-R 750 while in the Marines, and he dropped it. Insurance took care of it without any problems at the time.

From some of the responses it is very obvious why insurance rates are what they are. Insurance will take care of it.:lecturef_smilie:

My insurance policies will cover anyone who uses the vehicle with my permission.

I have a better idea for you Scotty...you can be the first RT-S limo driver and drive the rest of us around...that'd work even better! :D:D

On another note, got out for 130 mile ride today...low 50s in MD...good enough for a ride...have to get my highway pegs on there sooner or later.

Oh, since the first update, I'm noticing lower mileage...about 28 mpg. JB settings down to 3 for acceleration and max throttle (settings 2 and 3), 4 for coasting (setting 4), and 5 and 5 for how fast gas kicks in when start accelerating/full throttle (settings 5 and 6)...

Any thoughts? Maybe I should increase the cruise and drop settings 5 and 6 back? With throttling, it might be pulling too much fuel? I do notice a considerable performance increase as of late, but I'd go with a nice mix between mileage and performance...

I was getting up to 32mpg before the first (and only for me) update...
