• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Did first service myself.

I was wavering rather or not I wanted to do the first service but after reading a few post decided to tackle it. It was far easier than I thought and I checked off each item listed in the book for this change. I couldn't check the codes or the belt tension but all the rest. I am thankful I have a Handylift. When I finished I walked into the house and told my wife that my Handylift was the second best purchase I have ever made. She said, "What was your first?" Without hesitation I said, "Your wedding ring." Right answer!

Might want to get the belt tension checked, I just had my first service done today on my F3s and my belt was at 600n. The range for the belt as shown below is 900n to 1200n. My belt was reset to 900n as seems to be the recommended tension around the forums to prevent bearing and sprocket issues.

Well....

Not to go against the chart and it's publisher but that is somewhat higher than most are using on the krikit....
Most do let the dealer do the first service just for that reason....the buds readout giving any codes that could be an issue and having it registered that the spyder was checked after initial break in. You can run by your dealer and have them hook it up and see if there were stored codes most of which you may never see....:banghead: only buds knows.....congrats on doing the service as complete as you did....:2thumbs: some just change the oil....

Preventing - bearing & sprocket issues ....... means a lower belt setting ......not a higher one !!!!...........So your DEALER just went the other way - made it higher :banghead::banghead::banghead:..............Mike

202 is VERY high for an F3- Mine is 160 with the wheel on the ground and I have No vibration Unless I'm at about 72-73 MPH (Which I do Rarely Here in New England because it can cost me $$$) Tension at 160 on the ground Is Much More Beneficial to your belt and Gears than 202?? Its Your Roadster.

The strain gauge measurement of the Krikit II and the inferred measurement of the Gates Sonic are actually two different methods that cannot be equated.
If in doubt, IMHO go with the Gates Sonic measurement, it is by far more accurate and it is the method specified by those who made the bike and the belt.

Seen several posts about the Krikit but what is the Gates Sonic measuretment. If it,s a better more accurate method then thats what i want.

That is outdated information and does not apply to the F3

The Gates Sonic Meter 508C (I think that is the model) is what BRP had recommended in all their service manuals.
The BRP part number is 529 036 115
It's pricey unless you can find a Going Out of Business dealer like I did.

Called my dealer to tell them that I had done most of the service myself and needed codes checked and belt tension checked. The reply was, "That's great it will save you money. Bring it in!"

Is that with the krikit and on an F3 right?

So is there an "official" new value?
Is it in writing anywhere?
Thanks, Rick

BRP Service Bulletin (TST) dated 9/18/2015

A picture of this bulletin is on Spyderlovers somewhere - PM me your email address and I can send you pdf file of same.

There may be a later bulletin but this is what my dealer used on my F3 - 11/2015 timeframe.

Well Done!

I haven't had the nerve to try the oil/filter change yet, even with just over 24,000 kms in just over a year of ownership. My theory is that if anything goes wrong, I can know with certainty that all of the work has been done by the dealer, albeit at some pricey charges. Next July I feel I'll have the "guts" to try some service myself. I would strongly suggest that you have the belt checked by the dealer, though. That is a very important piece to not have operating correctly. And .. as for your RIGHT answer to your wife, Well Done!
