• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

cut holes in windshield

I would likr to cut the two holes in my 2012 RT to match the 2013. What tool and or cutter works best?

I installed a Goldwing vent in my windshield. I used a 1/2 inch drill bit in the corners and did the cut out with a sabre saw equipped with a plastic cutting blade. Worked very well. Be sure to cover the area you're cutting with masking tape on both sides of the windshield.
Don't worry if you mess it up you can always get a 2013 vented windshield. That was my fallback plan, but I didn't need to go there.

Power tools..!!

Dremel comes to mind. They have a variety of cutting discs and grinding tips for shaping..but you do need a steady hand... Good luck..!!

Go ahead;);)

there are so many different methods you could fill a book. I have done using the multi hole method, the Dremel tool method, the rotary saw blade method, the jig or scroll saw method and one hot soldering iron method. Forget the hot iron method it sux but it did cut the hole out.

Sorry,
Have't got pictures as of now. It was really not difficult once I figured out the dremel tool just melts the plastic and seals the cut closed. I have a speed control on the dremel, but the sabre saw just worked great.
The install took about two hours.

I am pretty experienced with a dremel and even have an old one that goes 30K adjustable unlike the new ones.
I have tried before to cut Plexi-glass and it cant handle it unless you want to take 8 hours. At least not with any bit I had and I got a ton!

My brother in law is a glass guy (glassier) I have seen him cut holes in glass not just plexi glass he has a hole saw that has millions of diamond chips . But what he told me was the trick is to not get the RPM's to high and keep the heat DOWN. Not sure if your looking for round or rectangular.

?

It been said it helps with buffing. My? In the rain does the holes cause the rain to blow up into face. As of now if I get caught in the rain with the windshield up I have very little rain blowing in my face. With the holes the rain has to go somewhere. We all been caught in the rain and sometimes it can get hard to see specially around 18 wheelers. I just wonder if this mod will cause more rain to blow on your face mask. We all try not to get caught in the rain but sometime it can't be helped like spyderfest. Ha.ha.

There's no doubt that this is a worthwhile and d0-able project... with the proper tools!
Since it's in such a visible part of your bike; you might want to see if you can scrounge up an old windshield for some practice runs first!
Good Luck; we're waiting to see your results! ;)
