• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Bluetooth Dongle Question

I have a question for those of you who use the Sena SM10 Dual Stream Bluetooth Transmitter. When you have it on, does it mute your Spyder's speakers?

I'm asking because I just installed one on my 2013 STL, and I still get sound from the speakers. I think it's going to be annoying. Is there a setting that I missed?

It does NOT mute speakers on my Spyder
To "mute" you change setting External Speakers OFF

You can't use both at the same time because there is a little delay in the headset and it is extremely irritating. As suggested you can turn the external speakers off in the settings. I did do that for a while. What I found to work better is to turn the volume down to just above mute. That way I had the choice of using the headset or speakers without going into the settings.

So you're saying the volume control on the Spyder has no effect on volume through the SM10/helmet - you have to only use volume on your helmet?

The volume control will only control the volume of the external speakers. The mute function will mute both the external speakers and the headset. The GPS will override the mute function when giving turn by turn directions.

So I turn the volume down to just above mute when using my headset. I cannot hear the external speakers with my helmet on. I mute the headset with the volume control mute function when needed. When in a city and I am using the GPS for turn by turn. I will use the mute so I am not distracted by the music or radio and the directions will still come through.

Thanks!

Thank you to everyone who replied to my original post. I installed the dongle Friday evening, turned it on, and found out there was sound both in the headset and the speakers. Then I went away for the weekend (in the car, not on the Spyder). It was bothering me, but I didn't have the ability to work on it. I was in the garage today, playing with my toys, and I found that everything said in your replies is true. I was not aware that you could go into the menu and mute the external speakers. I tried that and found it to work well. I also tried lowering the volume on the external speakers, but not turning them off. That works equally well with the option of still using the speakers without having to go in the settings menu and turn them back on.

This has been an interesting journey. I started a few weeks ago, thinking that I would buy headsets so I could talk to my wife while we ride. And, while I'm at it, why not have the ability to listen to FM receivers built into the headsets. I shopped around for Sena 20s dual pack, bought from the lowest bidder (on eBay, but they have a great rating), and installed them. I instantly hated the FM radios built into the 20s headsets. The reception is poor and the sound is tinny. I realized that the Spyder has a far better radio built in, so I bought the Bluetooth dongle. The sound is far better than the 20s radio, but my wife and I will have to listen to the same radio station. She reminded me that we have been doing that for 34 years, so why stop now?

Again, thanks for your help. As always, you came through for the Spyder community with some great, and accurate, advice.

.

This is a new feature, one which I really like. On my 2010, when I muted the music ALL the sound, including the GPS was silenced.
I was surprised and quite pleased to see this GPS will override the mute on my 2014. I don't know when the change was made.

But do not mute the speakers by turning the volume all the way down because it will also mute the headset, as stated above, only lower the volume just shy of mute.

Odd, I know!

Don't know if anyone else had this issue, but I had the Dongle installed and with the speaker volume just shy of mute, I used the Sena volume control....but on highways, it didn't seem loud enough...and you can't go above a certain setting. On the Dongle, if you tap the button twice, it adds a "boost", which gives me the volume I need for highway speeds. Also remember with the Sena/Dongle on, you don't have the auto-volume adjust as you do going through the normal speakers.
