• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Amsoil 10w-40 metric oil - what do you think?

As a 998 rider, I change my oil every 4,000 miles, and I use the 5W40 Rotella. I know it breaks down around 5000 miles, but I never let it get that far. And since I am throwing it away every 4000 miles, it makes no sense to me to buy an oil that is going to last 10,000 or 15,000, or one that costs a lot of money. I have 80,000 miles on my lowly twin, and as we are both coming to the end of our respective roads, I think we will be just fine as we are. On your Spyder, you can do as you please.

The 1330 has the same oil wear profile as the 998. Makes you wonder why BRP didn't retain the same service interval for the new engine. And yes, if you're going to change your oil at 4,000~4,500 miles, the XPS is fine. However, You can easily go twice that far on Amsoil, which cuts the actual cost in half, not to mention service cost if you're paying someone to do it, or just your labor to do it twice as often.

One of the things I like about a longer lasting lubricant is that when I make a run to the west coast. I don't have to find a dealership or place to do an oil service during the trip and wonder if they did it right as I'm not coming back.

The manual calls for 5W-40, and 5W-40 only. If you use anything else, that potentially gives BRP a leg to stand on to deny warranty claims on the engine and transmission. That's what I'm scared of. I will only use 5W-40 with the correct specifications (not necessarily from BRP/Can-Am though) until warranty is up. Which is in six years, so for the foreseeable future :)

Everyone is free to decide what they want to run, but I am not going to give Can-Am any more ammunition to deny a warranty claim than necessary that's all.

They also say "Damage caused by the use of an oil not suitable for the engine may not be covered by the BRP Limited Warranty". All it takes is your dealer to be a wad and blame any problems on the use of anything other than what's recommended in the manual and deny warranty. I'm sticking with what the manual calls for so that there's no argument that any possible failure was because I didn't use the "recommended" weight of oil.

Everyone else is free to run what they want and assume whatever level of risk there is in doing so. The risk is probably minimal, but it's also not zero.
