Hey Folks. I live in the area and can tell you there are some nice hotels in Gurnee that are due east of Lake Villa and should be reasonably priced .its due east on rt 132 of Nielsen and the park where the gathering is.

You should check the rules before you go. Most tracks require full leathers, boots, gloves, and Snell helmets. There may be safety requirements for the Spyder, too.

All the tracks I've been to including Bristol only require full leathers if you run under 10 seconds. The Spyder is running high 12's to mid 14's so that shouldn't be a problem but good idea to check anyway. :doorag:

Man, I would love to come down to this event. BIG problem is that we have our local car show on Saturday----which I usually am a part of some how---and the wife and I celebrate 21 years mated on the 24th. NOW---I have been working the other half-------and if it would warm the H**L up, I could get her some saddle time and I could get her mind around the idea. The car show is another deal. My 76 Cutlass is coming out of the paint shop in a week and is fully restored now. Locals are anxious to see the results. What to do-----What to do!!!!!???:gaah:

If we come down Thursday and get out early Saturday----would that be worth it???????????????????????

There will only be one BRP owners event this year and I'm sure there will be more car shows.

It seems to me that this is for Spyder Owners AND Spyder Lovers. I would think that anyone that has a "Spyder Jones":spyder2: would be welcome. Eh, Lamont:dontknow:

It's all about body language, show up and act like you own the place, that's what I do.

Derwin, you should show up as a friend of many Spyder owners. Debbie and I will vouch for you if they give you any guff getting into the mansion. :thumbup:

Ron, you really shouldn't encourage me...LOL I am not sure there is a place in the area we could even get away with trying some more "performance testing". I will need a bit more practice before I 'Breeze" by Doc I think anyway.

Speed-Shift a Manual Transmission for a Drag Race

1. Step 1
   Use a dynamometer to figure out the correct power-band of each gear of your manual transmission. While many people believe that the engine is putting out the most power right before the red-line, the maximum power-band actually occurs somewhat before that.
2. Step 2
   Consider purchasing an outboard tachometer with a lighted shifting indicator, which can be adjusted to reflect the maximum power-band of each gear. Since you will be able to see the shift light indicator in your peripheral vision, you can keep your eyes safely on the road and still know the best time to perform your speed shift.
3. Step 3
   Implement the speed shift technique for your manual transmission by revving your engine before your launch from 3000 to 4500 rpm, depending upon the low-end torque of your Spyde (the more torque you have, the less you will need to rev your engine). Remember that the less you spin your tires, the quicker your launch will be.
4. Step 4
   Try to shift about 500 RPMs before you hit the optimum power-band for each gear. This will help to compensate for your reaction time to seeing the shifting indicator light, which may be as much as a second or even more.
5. Step 5
   Keep your throttle open during each speed-shift. This will cause your engine to rev high while the clutch is depressed, so you will need to make your shift quickly enough so that you do not approach the red-line, which can either burn out your engine or cause the rev limiter to kick in and shut off your engine. Either way, you will lose the drag race! :doorag:
