2018 CanAm Se-6 RT limited Riding style

Hi,

I love my CanAm spyder and was wondering how most folks out are riding.

Feels as though lately I have adopted
A more aggressive riding style. I am pushing to 4.5 to 5.5 rpm on gear changes. Sometimes on the highway, I look down and see 100mph or more in 6th gear. Is there any reason not to push the bike or should I go back to quiet ride mode ?

Probably depends on how deep your pockets are to hold the speeding tickets. just sayin

:agree: .... Rotax engines are well known for their longevity .... and the 1330 is quite under-stressed IMHO .... I don't equate " aggressive " with RPM's .... to me " aggressive " has more to do with how much faster you go in the " twistie's " compared to what is posted on the yellow caution signs ... I can sit in my driveway and rev the engine to the red-line over and over, is that " aggressive " ???? .... Mike

Don't stress about that any - or you'll be suffering FAAARRR more from the stress than your Spyder is!! nojoke Altho it might pay to keep in mind that while the Nanny will generally look after you if you inadvertently push the envelope juuust a little bit too much, she isn't always going to protect you from Stupidity - be it yours or anyone elses!! So please do keep that in mind! ;)

And you should probably by now realise that while I'd just never encourage anyone else to overtly flout any local laws or the speed limit (D'ya Hear that?? Do what I SAY, not what I might DO! ) pretty much all of of your Spyder components (apart from a few things, and the OE Spec Kendas of course! :p ) are 'well over-engineered' to handle WAAAYYY more riding/running stresses than most of us will ever manage to dish out, and in other platforms/uses all the current Spyder/Ryker engines actually do put out significantly higher performance figures without any noticeable concerns or issues.... So really, on THIS platform, our Spyders/Rykers, there's little chance that you'll be hurting the machinery too much - in fact, it's waaayy more likely that given an appropriate service & maintenance schedule, you just aren't going to be harming the machinery at all!! :lecturef_smilie:

So apart from complying with your local laws & speed limits, and of course always ryding with the safely of your self, your passenger/s, AND any other road users around you that you might be sharing the roads with, you can happily go out there & simply Ryde More, Worry Less :ohyea:

Enjoy, but ryde safely!

You have to remember, here in the Phoenix East Valley you will find left lane hogs that drive at 40mph and refuse to change lanes and some loonies that get frustrated and go flying around them, There are of curves on the roads ...

Besides once you get on the highway 80 mph is center lanes avg speed.

:)

As winter snowbirds we try to bring the greater Phoenix area speeds down to a reasonable speed each winter to no avail! Speeding in the area has become a right of passage. We have seen in the last 13 years the speed cams go away on the freeway and the little mobile Ford Escorts with speed cams go away. The other day I did see a pack of Dodge unmarked hot rods enforcing speeding in the Mesa area of the 60, and between Mountain View and Gold Canyon they sometimes sit between the East and West bound lanes.

I have come off the 17 to the 101 East and had to run 80 MPH with the traffic flow, with the many Tesla's in the area leading the pack(which is a Sunday drive for our 2015 RAM diesel with 3.42 gears out back). One has to think the Phoenix market for Tesla's is one of their largest.

Speed on, up to 5 MPH over is a given. Above that is anyone's guess of when you might be ticketed. When you are just going with the flow they are not going to stop everyone!

As others have said, how FAST you go is up to you and isn't what I consider aggressive riding. As long as you're keeping others safe, do what you want as far as the speeds. Flying around the curves marked 30mph @ 50mph is aggressive and FUN!

HAGO!

So essentially for you riding hard on the throttle is meaningless, but riding hard through a curve or bends on the road is what really matters

I do love a twisty road myself but I live and ride here .

Try riding on yhe 10 west going through Phoenix and then come tell me.

We have a lot of twisties in our area. Early on, when I got my F3L, the "nanny" came on at least twice to let me know I had exceeded the parameters. That was very easy to do.

So far, we have managed to stay off the interstates in AR. That time is coming and most likely within the next year.

We have been up to 70's on regular highways though.

That's not what I said, sir. I twist the throttle as hard as I can. I'm saying that riding FAST isn't what I consider aggressive riding. Accelerating fast is a different thing.

I'm a new 3-wheeler coming off a sport-tourer. I ride my 2020 RT like I stole it! I live where there are lots of twisty roads within 30 minutes from home and love the G-forces in the curves. Only took the 1st day to realize the OEM sway bar and tires suck! I replaced both and had laser alignment and now I can almost keep up with my 2-wheel maniacs in the twisties. On the interstates, 75-85 mph is typical. The only downside of the RT is lack of acceleration but the Pedal Commander helps a little with that weakness. To date I can only get the RT up to 107 mph (GPS) but it handles fine at that speed.

Personally, I think the front suspension on the 2020+ is much better than the previous generation (I've owned both a 2018 RTL and my current 2021 RT) but I upgraded to a Baja Ron sway bar. It made a difference. Well worth the $300 price although I'm not sure the improvement would have been worth it had I paid a shop an add'l $300 for installation. From what I've heard/read, it's well worth the added labor cost on the previous model although I didn't have one on my '18.

In my opinion, the OEM Kendas don't suck but they certainly aren't up to aggressive riding. I'd say they're probably fine for light touring. I ride hard so I'll upgrade to car tires sooner rather than later.

HAGO!

In that case all is well cause there are times when I feel the need, the need for speed and awesome exhaust notes

I think that any modern, well-maintained four-stroke engine built by a reputable manufacturer is gonna take anything you can do to it - knowing that an ECM is monitoring your inputs and will step in as needed.

As for the durability of one particular Rotax four-stroke, a quick story:

I have a Ski Doo snowmobile with the 600 ACE four-stroke engine in it. I ran it wide-open throttle (75 mph/7900 rpm, which is close to redline) the length of a 9 mile frozen lake, and never let off. Engine temp, oil pressure, oil level all checked out fine after that. If the motor could talk, I think it would have said, "Meh."

Your Spyder has a rev limiter. This limiter is set on the conservative side so don't worry too much about winding it out. I'm not saying to bounce it off the limiter in every gear, but let it wind out and enjoy the rush from time to time.
