2013 Spyder CB Setup

Apparently, the CB on the new RT does NOT work with the bluetooth dongle that BRP is selling. I assumed -- but didn't know -- that it would plug into the auxiliary plug on the dongle. Not according to BRP.

Apparently, to us CB one will have to use the BRP headset unit (the plug is special) as well as, say, the Sena SMH10 mounted on the helmet as well. Thus, there will be two mics and two sets of speakers. One could have bluetooth music/Iphone/gps OR one can have the CB but not both.

Is this what others have found? Has anyone worked out a way to have both without having two headsets on one helmet?

Interesting...Ken...I want a CB on my 2013 ST-Limited...so far no one has found out if the BRP unit will plug and play with the ST....

Mrs. Gruff.....

I'm not sure it applies to the 2013; that's what I'm trying to find out. The more I think about the problem and review BRP schematics, the more I'm convinced that it can't be done.

As I see it, there are two problems: (1) the CB implementation requires a special headset and cable. Basically, that arrangement plugs into the audio system. Because the plug from the headset is uncommonly wired (someone clever with electronics could figure the pin-out), you have to have a BRP headset. (2) the new Sena dongle sends all audio -- gps, mp3 player, phone and, even, radar detector -- to a bluetooth headset. This means that if you have an RT which has the audio installed with the dongle you can move the sound from the speakers to a bluetooth headset.

These two systems are functionally exclusive (they are not technically exclusive because CB is basically audio).

What I want is a way to listen to the CB and all of the other audio THROUGH my bluetooth headset. It may not be that simple but that's how I understand it.
I am investigating actually installing two mics on my helmet though it will add weight and inconvenience.

I happened to mention all of this to a friend who rides and HD. On his bike all of these audio sources are combined into one output (one plug on his dashboard) which connects to his helmet headset. Done! Surely BRP can figure this out if HD can.

Does this apply to the 2012 also? Two mics?

CB plug in

My husband's Electra Glide Ultra Limited has Radio, MP3, CB, and communications all in one outlet and that is what I thouht I was getting on my Spyder once I purchase the CB. May have to rethink communicating between bikes. We have only had 2012 Spyder RT a week and still need to sork out communications among other things. Thanks for the information.

DOn't waste your money on BRP CB

First it's around $1300. to buy and install the CB on the Spyder (NO the Dongal WILL NOT work with the CB) you can hear it but not transmit. I checked with SENA and they don't plan on making a cord that will interface with the CB and BRP is in the same boat. If you want to be able to play with your CB on the spyder. Check out J&M Audio, they make a Bluetooth interface that will work with the CB. But be prepared to spend some bucks, it's around $1000. to do this. Or you can buy a Handlebar mount CB radio from J&M Audio for allot less money that will work on the spyder. But as of last week they didn't make a mound that would work on the handlebar. So I would check with Kewl Metal for that. My wife and I have the SENA setup, Duel headsets SMH10D and 2 SM10's and got the whole thing delivered for $502.00 and had it installed and working in 1 1/2 hours. You DON'T have to buy it from BRP. The bikes cost enough, my wife lovers her ST-Limited and same with my Harley.

UGH!!! So much confusion, so complicated, so expensive, so much for Plug N Play

:lecturef_smilie:Seems BRP has got some work to do to get this all figured out :gaah:

SM10,SR10,or SR10i

Im interested in the same type of set up and have been looking into this a little and found what we need is a device that has the combined capabilities of two existing Sena products: the SR10 Bluetooth Radio Adapter and the SM10 Dual Streaming Bluetooth Stereo Transmitter. The SR10 can plug into a CB Radio, PTT button, and other Bluetooth devices BUT only transmits in MONO to the riders STEREO Headset. The SM10 with its Dual Streaming in Stereo can interface with multiple Bluetooth devices with the exception of a CB radio. Im willing to guess that the two units cannot be connected to each other to do what we want and I have been unable to find an adapter to add to either unit to make the required modifications we need. Sena has released a new Bluetooth Dongle the SR10i, Im hoping that it has the combined capabilities of the SR10 and SM10 but have been unable to find out. I guess the best bit of advice Ive received thus far in my quest is to call a Sena rep and ask them.

Nothing to do with Bluetooth, but just my 2cents. I have a 2012 RT Ltd, with CB, intercon, radio GPS etc. I have one socket on the dashboard and one by the passenger grab rails. Both our helmets have the BRP wired headsets. One plug, one socket each and everything works through the headset. CB, GPS, phone, radio, iPod and the intercon. Don't have to worry about Bluetooth charging or connections issues. Agreed no biker to biker Bluetooth but I don't know anyone who as them anyway. Very few have CB, normally just listen out for road info from truckers.
