• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

    FL ETHANOL LAW

MTBE was eliminated in 2007. Ethanol was the substitute in California. We don't have a blending mandate here, but all fuels have a minimum of around 6%, but 10% is more popular. 100 octane can still be found but its twice the price per gallon of 91. ($8.20) California does have a additive...

FYI: CA Motorcycle Law & Insurance Requirements

It was mentioned about 6mo ago. The license holder is bound by the laws of the issuing state as it applies to certification. So a California Spyder rider could ride to NY and back irregardless of occupied states license process. He or she is liable to familiarize themselves with the particular...

    Whistling Noise in First Gear

You will hear some wind noise as it contacts the wind screen. Generally I hear it about 20 mph. It's faint, and more of a whoosh than a true whistle. If this is your first motorcycle, I'd guess this is what your a hearing. If your a veteran, and it's a true whistle...as in a screech, then...

GS/RS - in praise of simplicity

Agree. My 2008 GS has been a breeze. Cable throttle, less plastic, less heat, less hose damage. They need to roll back the "improvements" for reliability sake. I'm sure we have some wonderful stories of longevity, but the throttle situation alone has me wondering why they push so hard/fast on...

    Cramps while riding ???

Less common on the RT, it has to do with your foot position. You need to modify your Spyder to move your feet forward. Your not alone.

Test Results of Heat Elimination Mods

New exhaust (Cat) removal only heat mod ive done.. And the goal was performance, not cooling. 107F today. 4 bars.. Saw 5 bars flicker for a split second in traffic. No other bikes on the road... Zilch... Nada. Few cars for that matter.

    Bluetooth

Not to hijack, those that have the stand alone SMH10 might consider inside storage when hot. Although weather resistant, the owners manual discourages prolonged storage in heat (frunk...hot in triple digits, Garage...jungle hot in triple digits). Hot means 100F + Source: Sena SMH10 User guide...

    It comes in three's...

Well.. One and a half rides... The racoon at 1030 PM, the crop duster at 7:30 AM, and the bee/monster bug going in early at 6:30 the following day. Yeah... I need some James Bond stuff for the Spyder.. That would would stop his dusting in a hurry :)

    It comes in three's...

Half city, half rural. It seems a Spyder pilots paradise. Working a night shift allows warm evening rides and brisk morning returns.... UNLESS... . . . . The rider's plague of three's chooses you as its next victim. 1. The racoon race- Full of attitude, slow, and hard to see at...

    Why You Never See Spyders

I commute daily here in central California. I see a RT and a RS every 30-60 days maybe. Majority of the time they only seem to ride in ideal weather. Spyder clubs are nonexistent unless in Sacramento or San Francisco. Know two others that have em in my town.

Boiling fuel, hot legs & feet, melted boot glue & passive limp home modes

101F. Couldn't get it over 4 bars. Felt some nominal heat on right foot. I have a 107F day coming up. Will try then too. Some of my sport bike brethren are complaining their bikes are warming up (CBR, FJR) harley friends are indoors.

We are triple digits all week here. HIGH OF 108F. Lets see how hot this 5 year old GS gets.. And narrow down if this is exclusive to the RT/ST.

Boiling fuel, hot legs & feet, melted boot glue & passive limp home modes

Many super bikes have an intake port beneath the headlight. While our configuration makes this difficult, it's not far fetched to place intake ports on the RT. Perhaps both sides of the nose, mid body and of the same size as the RS fog light inserts. Eliminate the coffin and widen (gasp) or...

Boiling fuel, hot legs & feet, melted boot glue & passive limp home modes

Perhaps the lack of fog lights on the RS models is a good thing? Can't you lift the 2013s up and find a way to remove the bottom panel? It can't be permanent....must be a way, somehow, someway.
