There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. 2010 RT Windshield Problem

Questions

Has anyone experienced the armature that raises and lowers the windshield snapping in half? This was from normal use and I don't typically raise and lower the windshield, maybe a dozen times since I purchased it new in 2010. I spoke to a dealer and was informed that it would cost close to a grand to have it fixed. This part doesn't appear to be something that would break from just wind pressure. Any response would be appreciated.

This has been reported many times! It somewhat of a known issue. It is covered under warranty but if your out of warranty your kind of stuck. BRP does not spare that single part! You have to buy the entire assembly! Stupid I know...

Personally I would have your dealer call BRP and complain as this is a known failure item. Even if your out of warranty, I think they should cover this. It is not a wear item (like a belt etc). It should not be breaking! BRP knows this is an issue. So again, try to push the issue with your dealer.

If you search this forum you will find many that had this happen. Print it out and take it to the dealer and PUSH HARD!

Good luck,
Bob

:agree: I had one snap on my 2010 too... :gaah:
There have been quite a few reports of these arms failing; make sure that your dealer will push for a replacement for you!
Good Luck!

I wonder if some machine shop can reproduce alike one. You can always ask and it might save you some green.

I have and others have kind of been bugging Baja Ron or JT to make a replacement that is billet and stronger. I would hate to be doing 75 down the freeway when this lets go!

I usually ride with my windshield all the down. CruzerJoe clued me to lift it just a hair from the lowest point to avoid vibration. I don't know if that's what causes the breaking, but I've followed that advice since.

The trick to it; is that it's sold as a unit...
It just isn't meant ot be disassembled and have that strut removed and replaced.
Folks have done it, and we do have several others working on a stainless steel replacement.

One of the things that stop me from making them is the tooling cost for the metric hex broach. As most are covered under warranty that is another factor for me, I just don't think they will sell enough to cover the R&D and tooling. But I've been wrong before.

I looked at making an over clamp but there is just not much room on each side of the arm.

You have a out of warranty customer right here in the first post. I have seen others that broke and were out of warranty as well.

Then even though they are covered under warranty for many, those of us who don't want the windshield in our lap at 75mph down the freeway would be willing to replace it just for piece of mind!

Mine broke last week on my RTS2010. My dealer told me they have to change the motor assembly just for that little broken arm. It's covered by the base warranty for 1 year, but not with the BEST extension warranty. Here in Quebec, the motor assembly cost 642$ (722$ with taxes) and 3 hours are required for that job.

I'm going to weld this piece is aluminum.

Hmm ?

Really?

None of my business but, I question their accuracy on whether or not it would be covered by the BEST warranty. You may want to check with another dealer (or) call the BEST folks yourself.

I check yesterday with another dealer. Same answer. Not covered on BEST because it's consider as esthetical (?).

Will be weld tomorrow morning...

How in the heck is the windshield considered esthetical? It isnt like they make them without the windshield or a fixed or manual adjusting one. Man the crap that BRP tried to pawn off on the customer after spending a good chunk of $$$ on these Spyders.

Personally would be willing to pay dealer for labor but, would insist they supply ample information to BRP for replacement parts at no cost to me. A little research here will prove it is a design flaw. But, that's me. I own my faults....and expect others to do the same.

Good point Bob, I didn't think about that part.

I want to thank all you SpyderLovers for the advice and comments. I'll give it a shot with my dealer and see how far I get. I will keep you posted on the results. Thanks again!

I have put the small RT windshield on and I never put the windshield all the way down ,just leave it a little bit from bottom to avoid vibration and I have had no problems
