• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

LED Turn Signal Mod

This is the mod I did following several threads posted by others.
It allows you to see if your turn signals are still on in bright light due to how hard it is to see on the dash.

It cost around $10 (got mine for $9.99 a pair at Pep Boys in the Mirrors Section not the LED section) and takes about 30 minutes. No real skills needed.
No drilling needed.

This was done on a 2011 RT Limited. Can't say if the mirrors are similar on other models.

Basic Steps

1. Remove mirrors following steps in manual.
2. Remove colored trim piece by carefully lifting 3 tabs using a small flat blade screwdriver.
3. Remove black trim piece following same procedure used in step 2.
4. Remove turn signal light by removing 3 screws.
5. Locate large oval hole in back of mirror.
6. Push mirror to furthest inside position so that the narrow mirror edge moves away from plastic edge. This provides room to fish a wire or my case a large zip tie from oval hole out to side of mirror edge.
7. Pull LED wires through hole.
8. Splice into existing turn signal wires. My wires were Red (+) & White (-) from LED and Black (-) and white stripe (+) on turn signals.
9. Clean glass with Rubbing Alcohol and adhere LED light on edge of mirror.
10. Re-assemble trim pieces starting with Black piece then colored piece.
11. Remount mirror.

Thanks much! Neat and much appreciated mod. I follow the wife and am well aware that the signals often don't clear with the button and I end up flashing my lights/waving on the freeway to let her know. Your clear, concise instructions are appreciated. On my way to the auto store today. A.

THREE THUMBS UP!!! Great mod and great step by step!!
When I added my LED mudflap lights, I ran extra wires and tied them into the turn signals. They are MY go to when I need to confirm if the signals are on or off. BUT... your mod is much more simple and just as effective.

Led Signal Lites

While where on signal lites...Has anyone tried this for hard to see signal
flasher on display panel...You can't miss these..I used aprox 12" amber side fire led strips around mirror...:coffee:...

Great writeup! :2thumbs: A couple of more thumbs up! :D This is definitely looking like a mod that I'm going to have to tackle soon... I can't see those little green suckers on the dash at all anymore...

I did something similar. I put an led strip on the bottom mirror shell lip so that my mirror is unobstructed.

Thank YOU, See what you've done

I've had these exact same LED's for over 2 months now, but haven't felt comfortable enough to tear into the inside of the mirror without tearing it up:lecturef_smilie: until I saw your post today:bowdown: So guess what, Teddy had to have it done, & I no longer had any excuses thanks to your great detailed directions:firstplace: See for yourself:2thumbs: GREAT MOD:yes:

Somebody needs to take their Spyder to a dealer and have them call a rep in to take a look a it. Maybe they'd consider doing it at the factory...

Thanks for sharing this mod.

Thanks for sharing. I am always looking for ways to make my Spyder more noticeable in traffic. Liked it so much, I showed the post to hubby asked him to get the lights ASAP. He just finished installation and I love it.

So again, thanks for sharing the idea with all of us.

:bowdown::clap:

Great job! I'm headed to Pepboy's in F'burg tomorrow for a set of LEDs.

Also, glad to see one more RT in the F'burg area!

Sticky nomination

I nominate this mod for an RT sticky. Not sure which forum, tho this one is prabably appropriate, but it needs to be there. I personally am too tall to see the green dash lights easily.

:crackpipe: Don't get all crazy on us now. If that were done by the factory I have no doubt they would charge over $200 for something we can do for $10. Some mods are better kept within the owner's circle. :2thumbs:

I wish my RS mirrors were bigger. Of course, I might be able to get away with those small stick-on LED strips. Hmmmm...gonna be doing some research on this one.

'sides, if these thingys came all tricked out, what would be the fun in that? :roflblack:

BTW, Utopia/Marklawson goes on tommorow.

Thanks! I must have missed it while in my "Shiny Goodies"-induced stupor!:2thumbs: That's obviously a flexible hunk of LEDs... What length is it and is it hooked right to the edge of the glass???
