Took Big Red 1 in for his 600 checkup and he passed with flying colors. It seems my "limp mode" was because someone had their foot lightly on the brake pedal and caused the problem. As I said earlier, after I removed and replaced the key I rode on without incident. I have cautioned this person to keep his foot off the brake pedal while crusing along.

I adjusted my Spyder foot rests and now am much more comfortable putting my feet on the rests....they were too high and now are just right.

I have just a few hours ago had my spanking new RTS SE5 VYPER RED delivered to my front door.....ooooohhhhweeeeee...aint she a beaut.

I'll be installing my gps & cb/comms system myself in a few weeks.
I AM disappointed in the range you are getting ...I always thought that cb's had a much greater range than that. I seem to remember back in the old days being able to talk to people many miles away.
Maybe they have reduced the power output of the units.

I don't know what the legal maximum power output is for cb's either in the US or here in OZ. anyone??? :dontknow:

Does anyone know the tech specs on the BRP unit?? power etc. :helpsmilie:
or if it's possible to add a booster into the antenna line??
within legal limits of course...don't want to make someones microwave blow up just as I go past !!! :roflblack:

Pete, I think the red is the prettest of the colors...I waited 9 weeks to get my Big Red 1.

My CB was checked out yesterday at my 600 service and my dealer will ask BRP to replace it. It is poor at best. We will see what the new one does. I will advise all when I get it.

In the US, four watts into the final is the legal limit and a decent CB will (should) talk 3/4 or perhaps a little more, depending on the terrain. The CB frequencies are in the 11 meter band and is not good at distance. If you are on a hill, you can talk farther...etc. It is not meant for long distances and that is why the US gov't. put the CB frequency on 11 meters.

It is illegal to put an amplifier on a CB in the US and perhaps in OZ too. It is a waste of time actually. Someone may be able to hear you, but you can not hear them as they may not have an amplifier. All you get with an amplifier is skip...useless.

Want to talk distance...become an amateur radio operator. I am WB5WFW and talk to the world on 100 or less watts. I talk to OZ often, clear as a bell...I was in OZ in 1970...love your country.

Actually, Bob, I was a little ashamed that I was riding the brake...I know better and hope that was really the problem...the BUDS system did not show ANY fault yesterday when the tech hooked it up during the 600 mile service. It showed all systems go...??

Anyway, I am more aware of my right foot position and also moved my foot rest frather out from the brake pedal. So far, so good after 300 more miles.

I increased my rear tire pressure to 30 and it seems to handle better. We have had some very windy days and BR1 is not the best in the wind. My Wing is somewhat better, but not great in the wind. I have a larger windshield on my Wing and ride with the Spyder windshield full up. Both might be better with them all of the way down, but I will just live with it.

For the next four months, south Texas will get HOT with no wind..ha ha. Later....

Two year ago, we had 58 days of 100 or better....it is running in the 90's every day now....we ride early and home by noon or earlier...no rain in over four months....ha ha Life in south Texas....:2thumbs:

No one upmanship here, Bob. However I was stationed at Grand Forks AFB, ND for four winters in the 60's. We had guys come in from Alaska and beg to go back....the bad part was that the wind blew most of the time...as you well know, cold plus wind equal low chill factor.:gaah:
