• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Belt tension cost?

What are Spyder dealers charging for this service? Is BRP covering this cost with the release of the bulletin that reduced the specs. I just had mine checked for the heck of it since it seemed OK but my dealer said its too tight according to the new spec and they want to charge me 1.5 hrs labor.

Is your bike out of warranty yet? I'd try to get them to cover the "fix" wherever it's possible... Good Luck!
I only have 3500mi. I asked them to check into it for me, waiting to hear back. I also thought 1.5 hrs was a bit much in labor which would work out to $120.....

How your relation's with your dealer.? [1.5 hours??]

My dealer adjusted my belt at 11 thousand miles, no charge, it took less than a half hour from the time in to the time out. BUT my sons and i BUY ALL, our toys and parts/accessories from him for the last 25 + years.
Sometimes a smart Dealer will cast a little Bread amok's the waters.

Check and adjustment can be done in way less than 1/2 hour. I have seen it done. A good tech will do it in 15 minutes.
Loosen axle, turn adjusting bolts, check tension, tighten axle. Even I could do it.

My dealer did it at no charge at the beginning of the season when docdoru posted about it here. I had about 6,000 miles on the spyder at the time.

Most had it done for FREE or a nominal fee like $25-$30! Wonder :dontknow: What are they going to charge you for the 12,000 check? $1,800.00???:yikes:

I've only had them do a first service 600mi which I thought was reasonable at $220 all other work was recall stuff so this estimate surprised me. Just wanted an idea if charged what is reasonable, thanks.

The BRP flat rate for belt tension adjustment is 1.5 hours. That is certainly excessive, but blame BRP and not the dealer.

I just had it checked during my 3000 mile maintenance. They said the tension was way to high and didn't charge me at all to adjust as it should has been checked before delivery in July.

Thanks everyone

Just got it back and BRP covered it under warrenty. Also they would have worked with me if I had to pay. I was their for about 2 hrs as they worked on it and even though you can get it in the ball park adjusting the tension{used a sonic meter] and travel they had to repeatedly take it on the road as the belt would drift and settle in somewhere else. so it did take them awhile to get it to specs., 1-5mm from the inner stop.

That's why you put it up on a jack and run it in third gear to check the alignment. No riding... no wasted time. Give 'em a hint for next time.

Belt adjustment

I had to have mine adjusted at about 2400 miles late summer. The dealer said that BRP would not cover the cost even though it was a recall issue. They spent about 35 minutes getting it just right. The charge was $39 and change. The did the DPS software update also but they were not happy with the results. This was before we were aware of that recall. Now I am ' inline' the the DPS replacement. Carlos called me because I email him with complaints that the dealer is quoting 2 month wait. Mine is one that gives the quirky jerk to the right at 50+ MPH. Now I do not want to ride it on the freeway, only around town. Not a happy customer. :(

I know they were jacking it up every time but I didn't know if they had it in 3rd. Is the gear critical for proper adjustment?

Take this for what its worth. When I check my belt on my truck or car to see if it is cracked or tight enough, I twist it over to look at it. When I check my drive belt on my :spyder2: to see if it is cracked or tight enough, I twist it. On my car and truck, the belt will twist all the way over. On my :spyder2:, it will twist only half way. Sitting on it makes no difference. Therefore, in my opinion, it is tight or loose enough. I am not going to pay some school kid or 2nd rate mechanic to do the same. But then I don't let anyone touch my :spyder2:. This way if something falls off my :spyder2:, I wont be able to blame some ITT graduate that thinks a screwdriver is a drink.

Third is not critical... just a mid-point. First is too low... doesn't spin enough and fifth is too high... spins wildly.

I actually adjusted mine while the engine was running, jacked up, in third gear. Once set, shut the engine down and tighten the axle.
