There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil Change, Inspection and Checkout - 14 is Alive and Well

My Phantom, which I simply call 14 - #14 of 500 - got the royal treatment today. Since she just turned 5526 I figured I would change the oil and give her a complete check-out. I got a bad news call today so I know I'm going to be taking a trip now. Suffice it to say I was motivated to do this.

At any rate, All the tupperware came off, and we started by doing an oil change. Of course I took her out and got her up to temp so the oil was nice and hot when I drained it out. I let it drain for quite a while while I checked the sprocket, the belt, any and all hoses, etc. Everything was good, cleaning things as I went.

I then finished the oil change with my kit from Ken and this Kick-butt Amsoil oil! Now I know what all the fuss is about. This oil is like SILK! The engine just purrs with this stuff in the crank case. It even runs cooler! I was amazed and happy all at the same time. ANd need I say it... she's faster with Amsoil in her! By 300 RPM at least!

The other thing I discovered is that the the shifter lever is adjustable from 2 different postions. The foot peg itself AND the lever both adjust. It's so sweet now I almost feel like I have my SE5 back! Going through the gears is now pretty much automatic. It's fantastic!

So 14 is alive and well and ready to make the trip; one that I am not looking forward to but hopeful will have a good outcome. I'm staying positive...

I've been running Amsoil since my 600 mile service (18k miles now)...great stuff!!!

I'll tell ya brother - I'm sold! I could tell from the minute I cracked the first bottle open that there was something different about this stuff. The BRP oil that was in there to its credit was still pretty clean - But I really wanted to make the move to full synthetic. And I have been dying to try the Amsoil that I got from Ken. This oil is silky smooth going in, doesn't seem to get overly hot and reduces friction by a pretty good amount by the 300 rpm I gained. SO from now on, 14 gets Amsoil! From Ken! :ohyea:

You know, the other thing that I feel pretty good about was learning about the adjustability of the shift lever! Man, it is swwwwweet now! It's like having a rifle shifter! And they told me at the dealership "nah, you cant adjust that." :duh: Ummm... YES YOU CAN!

10-40 for motorcycles...make sure it says it's for motorcycles or you will have clutch slipping issues...

Yes Sir! 10W-40 for motorcycles. I was careful about that. That's why I got it from Ken. He knows his stuff! That's the other thing; she shifts like butter now! It used to be a bit hard and clunky, but now she is silky smooth and sexy! I just love it! :D

Glad to hear everything is good to go with 14, and wishing you the best outcome for your upcoming trip. Ryde hard, but ryde safe.

:thumbup:Great stuff! Yep, 14 is being looked after, nice job!

Be safe out there and have fun, but I don't think having fun is the problem with your 14, sounds like you're having a blasting!
Awesome!
Cheers from Newfoundland!

I used the mobil 4T oil and the first time pressing the paddle shifter I was sold a whole lot quicker and smoother.

4 main reasons I use Amsoil

  1. the Spyder runs consistently cooler.
  2. The oil resists bubbling so it's easier to get a read on levels. As is always true, you get what you pay for. (This is not cheap oil)
  3. I come from snowmobiling world and Amsoil is legendary. Ever meet many snowmobilers? They have 2 speeds, stopped and full throttle. That means industry tested under very extreme conditions.
  4. I can streeeetch the times I change the oil to between 4 and 5 K (My dealer and I discussed this and it was his suggestion...be sure to check your dealer before just doing this on your own due to warranty)

Thanks all. My Mom is sick. This is not the way I wanted to get the first road trip in but the ride will do me somw good to keep my head clear until I get there. After that, it's one day at a time. But it's all gonna be good. And then I'll be back terroroizing y'all again! :spyder:

The Mobile 4T is good stuff. Generally the move to full synthetic was significant. But to move to a quality product is of course very important. You made a good choice! :2thumbs:
