I just completed a big Spring refresh on my 2020 F3-S with just over 48,000 miles. Since my wife is now retired along with me, we'll be doing a lot more touring together, and I wanted to get the bike back to 100%.
I found that one of my front shocks was leaking oil so I replaced that with a used take-off shock from my friend's bike. BRP wants $400 for a new one! My friend gave me his take off shocks for free, (well, the price of lunch) because I had done the work replacing his with Elka's. Besides not wanting to spend the money on a new shock or replacing with Elkas, I have an investment in the H+R performance springs from Martin, so I wanted to keep the same Fox shock.
Replaced the front brake pads and the rear pads and rotor. I had previously replaced the front rotors last year. All EBC products.
Changed the oil and filter, it was due at about 8,000 miles. No particles found on the oil plug magnets. I use Mobil 1 4T Motorcycle Synthetic.
Checked the air filter. Didn't look dirty at all, blew off some dust with the air hose. I think I replaced it last year.
Although my Vredestein Quatrac tires weren't down to the wear bars yet, they were close enough, so I ordered a new set from Town Fair Tire. I had purchased the previous set from them and they were able to mount them no problems. But they can't balance them on their machine, so I balanced them myself. I have a Marc Parnes Balancing Kit for the Spyder. Works great, my bike rolls super smoothly. I had about 38,000 miles on the front tires and about 20,000 on the rear. I had only a little more wear in the center of the tires than the sides, so I'm good with the air pressures I've been using. 18 psi in the fronts and 22 in the rear. I might go down one psi if they don't feel too mushy.
This was also a good time to service the front drive pulley. I removed it, cleaned, and regreased it. Everything looking good there, no sign of rust or wear. This is the third time I've done it - Every time I've replaced the rear tire, it makes sense to do it when you have the belt loose.
Decided to reinstall the stock catalytic converter to quiet the bike down so that my wife won't be annoyed so much by the drone. After my test ride, the jury is out, I may put it back in. The RLS pipe with expansion chamber isn't much louder and has a nice deeper tone. She didn't seem to mind it much, but after our next ride together I'll know her preference.
Did some cleaning in the hard to reach areas while I had it apart. The bike is starting to show it's age a bit here and there. It's getting a little aluminum corrosion on a few parts. Nothing I'll bother with for now. I like to keep my bike clean, but I know that time will get to it. As long as it's mechanically sound and reliable, I'm keeping this thing for a long time!
The weather cleared up yesterday afternoon, so I took it for a good test ride of over 2 hours and the bike felt great!
