More and more Spyder owners realize that we are in the service shop 90% of the time waiting for parts. It is not our service manager duty to have some BRP parts in the inventory? I'm not talking about engines, but normal wear and tear parts: tires, brake pads, bulbs etc. That's my opinion....

:agree: Normal maintenance items and wear parts should be stocked. In the old days manufacturers used to require dealers to carry a minimum inventory of critical parts. Unfortunately, today's business model is very different. Just-in-time practices, and theoretical overnight delivery have reduced spares in most dealerships, and even in manufacturers warehouses, to a minimum. More's the pity, if you ask me.

Having worked for a motorcycle dealership in the past, a good dealership will have immediate critical parts on hand, ie., oil, oil and air filters. Over time, brake pads, spark plugs, oil drain plugs and washers. Sadly, from reading the frustrations Spyder ryders are having, too many dealers seem to be on an order-when-needed basis. And I can't prove it, but I am also inclined to believe that too many dealers are ordering whenever they feel like it instead of on a timely basis. BRP gets blamed for everything, dealers hold a Spyder because they have no clue, riders get frustrated, and the "beat goes on". I am one of the fortunate ones without problems. Hopefully it continues.

parts

You know I hear stories about guys "waiting" on parts. I dont go to a dealership I order mine from the web. I will tell you that i have yet to order a part (mostly filters, orings etc standard items you would need) that wasnt at my house in 5 days or less. How long are you guys "waiting" on parts?

Here is my take on this; The mileage racked up by these machines is quite a bit higher than what would be expected from a normal two wheeler, an ATV or a jet ski. So we are getting to the point where we need time change items like brakes a lot quicker than one would expect. I had seven oil changes my first year out! I have a friend with a five year old Harley going in for his first 5000 mile check.

I could be wrong.

One of the major problems with replacement parts for the spyder is no parts supply house or distributor in the US our parts are coming from Canada for the most part. When ordered there is no true overnight - customs sees to that. If an order goes in best case senario - parts arrive in 48 hours -- if stopped by customs for inspection it will be 5 days or more.
I have spoken to my dealer about this when my spyder broke down earlier this year. I wrote letters to BRP and to the dealer about the parts situation.
I too think the dealers should carry a supply of routine maintenece parts or at least have BRP set up a distribution house in the US for these parts so they can be obtained overnight. JMHO

we stock just about everything you might need. But when we order something that we dont have,we have it the next morning at 7am with no overnight charges to anyone.even a transmission.99% of the time. But thats why we are #1.(HONDA).
My brp dealer doesnt even stock an oil filter, and it takes 3 weeks to get.

The basic maintainance stuff I've needed has been right there. Ordered a few odds and ends and it's been there on a very timely basis.
I can understand peoples frustrations but I've been lucky. This is (as said prior) a tougher economic time.

Most have the best Spyder

I must be the only one who has had a decent spyder who doesn't stay in shop. Mine you I've had a few glitches (ground wire, did update and gas gauge) but other than those three items. Spyder has been pretty reliable.
Now I hope I don't go and jinx myself by saying what I just did but I've got to say been pretty happy with the Spyder till BRP came out with the new one. Now that irritated me. Especially with all the mods that people on this forum had put on it. Have you guys noticed that. The new Spyder RT-S has all the mods. Hi rise handle bars, luggage, really nice seat your iron ass. That is my only gripe and for that I probably trade up in a year or two.:roflblack:

Have a great Spyder Day :spyder2::p:spyder2:

I believe BRP requires a minimum amount when ordering and dealer usually wait around until they have enough. They are unwilling to stock the parts for Spyder because there are so few out there. Its a catch 22 situation.

I have my work done at Fun On Wheels in Frederick, MD. Had quite a bit of work done to add some additional aftermarket stuff and repair a botched installation job by my original dealer. Normally got it back that day or, at worst, had to leave it overnight.

You are certainly not the only one with a decent Spyder. We feel ours has been good, in general. It did have a period in the shop, but that was partly because we were both in the hospital, so told the dealer to take his time. Sometime troubleshooting certain problems can take a few days, especially intermittent problems. I have no complaints.

Our dealer has never had all the parts available for a simple oil and filter change, however, and did not even have any body/windshield screws when I wanted a few spares. I order ahead now, when service is imminent. It would be easier not to have to do this, but dealer policies, customs delays, and tight economic conditions are out of my control. I don't despair, I just try to plan ahead. Naturally, this cannot be done for repair work.

No sense in getting irritated because BRP came out with a new toy. That is common. Lots of people who bought the 1965 Mustang thought it was great, then along came the 1967 version and they wanted that instead. New models are introduced constantly by manufacturers. We all have to make the choice between the ride we just got fixed up the way we want it, and the latest, greatest, deluxe model. Can't sweat that kind of stuff...it will just give you ulcers. :D

????????????

I was told by the service manager at my dealer that BRP will not ship any orders until the order reaches a given amount of money. I've been waiting six weeks for the ground wire kit. He told me they have five kits on order for ours and others Spyders that have been sold lately.

I agree with Scotty and Dudley . . . .

. . . . lots of businesses have instituted these practices. But, when you make an appointment a couple of weeks in advance to have service done and they have your credit card #, but still don't order the necessary basics to have on hand . . . . it is really a business management issue. Too many greedy, incompetent and lazy Service Managers out there. You riders who have good ones, be very nice to them - they are becoming rarer and rarer.

I am pretty sure that Delonte West was on his way to having some service done on his Spyder. http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14340 Since all of us here at SypderLovers are his peers, if I were to be on a jury hearing this case, I would find him both innocent AND practical.

The same happened to me: I waited for a "backordered" transmission filter for two weeks when I had to do the 600 miles service. I decided to get it myself in the Web and got it overnight.

There is no good excuse for any dealer in the US to not be able to get any Spyder part in 24-48 hours to get you back on the road.

BRP should have parts in stock ready to ship at the drop of a hat!

Actually, there is. There is no warehouse in the US for parts. Getting through Customs is a highly variable thing. Most of the time these things sail through for a business shipper, but there are glitches, and these can take days, or even weeks, to clear. There are just no guarantees where Customs is involved. I have seen our dealer (yours and mine) check stock, then make the order right then and there on the computer. Some parts have arrived in as little as 24-48 hours, others have taken up to two weeks. No rhyme or reason where Customs is concerned. Add in delays at the dealership or at BRP, or backorders, and waits can be long, indeed.

This is a real problem for me as the nearest dealer from me is over 6 hrs away and the next(where I bought) is 14hrs. I don't have the time to go back and forth waitin on parts. Luckly the dealer was good and I told them to get the GPS and they did so there was no wait.....yet.
