• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Does anyone find it at all annoying that the brake pedal seems back too far, and a bit too high....or am I the odd duck? It always seems like my foot is ahead of the pedal, and when I need the brake, I have to pick up my foot and pull it back to use the brake. To me it feels like the pedal should be longer so the pad is up by my toes....For those who have the highway pegs...do you find the transition annoying when you need the brakes? Mehhh, petty stuff I know, but I have a banged up right ankle with a lot of hardware in it, and it just doesn't work like it used to anymore.:sour:
 
A friend of mine made an extension to move his brake pedal forward and to the right a bit, so he wouldn't have to move his foot so far when he is riding on the highway pegs. When I first got my Spyder, I felt the brake pedal was mis-positioned but, now that I've put some miles on it I think it is ok, although I do have a different pedal than it came with it is still in the same position. I also thought it needed highway pegs, and used them a lot, but now find I am keeping my feet more on the floor boards than the highway pegs. As a safety tip, let me say that when riding in a group, or in heavy traffic, I never use my highway pegs because of the delay getting to the brake pedal.

Good luck in what ever you do, I think it will be determined by what YOU want, and get used to.

I too went to the hand brake. Much more natural after a lifetime of riding motorcycles. Only drawback is the pull might be too hard for the wifey.

They build the bikes to (in theory) fit the most people possible...
But that also means that they can never please everybody.
With some tinkering: you'll find the right combination! :2thumbs:
 
:agree: I quickly learned to pick my boots up, and they just seem to naturally find the pedal on their own... :thumbup:

Don't forget that adding extensions to the pedal adds weight: you will eventually need to mount an extra return spring to the system to keep the pedal from sagging, and powering-up your brake lights when you're not on the pedal... nojoke

brake petal position

Guys,
I agree that the brake petal give me trouble also! The only time my right hip brothers me is when I am riding my RT Limited Spyder! As stated in this thread, when I had to pick my foot up and move it to the petal location, my hip wants to lock up and hurt, and sometime this is annoying! I wish 3 months ago, I would have bought the F-3 instead of the RT!
 
i couldn't get used to the foot brake either. so i went for the money and put the hand brake on both my RT'S that i had. i loved it

Can you refer me to a source on the hand brake option? Haven't heard of it before but worth looking into.

I will do better than that. Simply Google "can-am spyder hand brake kit" and you will get a listing of multiple providers of kits. I don't have enough experience with all of them to recommend one over the other but you will probably get opinions galore on the forum.

That's interesting. I had not thought about how the Spyder makes motorcycling available to people missing lower limbs. Thanks for the info.
