Tie Downs

We just bought a new 7X16 enclosed trailer and looking at options for tying down mama's Spyder RT and My HD Looking at two ways
1. 2 foot Etracks on each side of the three wheels with straps going through each wheel.

2. The ATV E track tie downs using one on each wheel. Everything bolted with backing plates. I kind of like this method because of the built in wheel chocks. They say they will hold up to 4500lb. Here is a link;

What do you guys think? Am I missing something?
Thanks

Looked at the e-trailer ties you mention looked good but had a question if the fronts would hit the fenders and if they slipped inside would bend the fenders and brackets.

THIS WORKS EXCELLENT & CANNOT DAMAGE ANYTHING

Short heavy duty nylon ratchet straps that go over the tires ( in-line ) are the least expensive and easiest way to tie down any spyder ..... Look on E-bay for Discount Ramps ....they sell for less on E-bay and ship for free...... they have a couple dozen to choose from ..... There are Pics posted by ..." Mazo EMS2 ".... of them in use .... Mike

I looked at that exact setup

I was going to go with that, I have the same size trailer. Glad I didn't. Once the spyder is in the trailer there is very little room on the side of each front wheel for you to get down and slip that strap under the fender and over the wheel. I ended up having two custom straps made for the front. I have 2 15 foot lengths of etrack running front to back in trailer the exact width of the front tires apart. My front tire straps have an etrack fitting on the ratchet end, then the ratchet, then a 9' piece of webbing then a snap hook then a 36" piece of webbing covered aith sheepskin and finally a d ring. The d-ring passes through the rim, and is connected to the snap ring, then the etrack fitting is clicked into the etrack and then tightened down. For the rear I went with a standard 2" strap with a sheepskin cover to protect the rim and etrack fittings on each end that I pass through the rear rim and then click into the etrack and tighten down. Each strap is rated at 1666 lbs WLL.

Looks great :firstplace:just please use proper hardware, dont try quick & ez with screws. :lecturef_smilie:
You should still use parking brake after you get in place tho:thumbup:

(Assuming that you have access to the area in front of the front wheels...)
Mount a heavy-Duty D-ring in the floor with a REALLY solid backing plate, in front of both front tires
Depending on how you run your straps will determine the exact placement.
Mount another anchor point behind the rear tire.
Up front:
You pretty much have two ways to run your straps:
BRP prefers that you run them through your tires.
I like to put mine around the end of the lower A-arm; just outside the shock's lower mounting point.
Put your anchor points directly in front of whichever location you choose.
run your straps around the A-arms (or through the wheels), and attach then to the D-Rings
Out back
carefully run your strap through the rear wheel... take care to not get it caught up in the braking hardware on the right-hand side, or the drive sprocket and belt on the left...

Easy-Peasey!

As mike( Blueknight911) described ( in post # 4) works fantastic. The strap does not scratch any of your tupperware, and the spyder does not move. Secure the strap to the front of your trailer.

We had towed my first spyder the way he described in post #4, on this tread, and my spyder did not move.

As Mike mentioned, a single strap over each tire works slick. Here's a pic of the rear tire to give you the jist of it.

I like that setup, but am concerned about the potential for scuffing up the front fenders...
(I am such a Klutz... :opps:)
Get touch with Mike( Blueknight911).

The tie downs that he use to tie down my 2012RTS-SE5 did not scuff the front fenders. Also, my first spyder did not move on the trailer. Even thou we had a minor accident. Deanna

I'm aware of the setup that he uses...
But you're not aware of just how easily I drop and scratch things. nojoke
I look at my method as just offering fewer chances to end up having to paint something; that's all!

I now have Super Clamps made for the Spyder. Nothing better. I do not think they are made anymore. D rings in line with the tires and straps through and around the tires is the very best way with out Super Clamps. Your trailer should have some tie down/D rings installed. Do not CROSS TIE the front tires. D ring tie downs are very easy to install.

I use Condor Chalks for hauling the motorcycles.

I do not have Super Clamps in my Toy Hauler RV and use the inline tie downs with straps through the tires along with chocks. Works great. The Super Clamps are in my 14' V-nose Look enclosed trailer. 7X14 I have seen some really strange methods and ideas about tie downs for all our fun toys. A little common sense will prove invaluable in the long run. Have hauled Side x Sides, motorcycles, Spyders, Ski-doos and Snowmobiles all over the country for 50+ years without an incident by using a little common sense. Just stop and think it through. You will do fine.

:shocked:Got to wash (not just lick) the bacon grease off your hands Bob. :2thumbs::coffee:
:roflblack::roflblack::roflblack:
& to help youself start with the rachet end hooked on, have a towel laying across fender as you move the other hook end in place.

Tie downs

I have etrack in my trailer and they work great. I loop one ratchet strap thru the rear tire and one on each side form the passenger foot peg. I have traveled many miles and the Spyder doesn't move!!

I as well have a 7 x 16 enclosed trailer. I ran e-track down entire length of both sides in line with the front wheels (the entire length just makes the trailer more useful for hauling a multitude of things). I just run straps through each wheel and secure with ratchet straps. Hauled the bike down from home to Mesquite, NV this winter, 2500 kms and it never budged the entire trip. I will take a picture later today and try to post it.

Tie Down Straps

I could not find the straps the way #4 post described going through E Bay Discount Ramps. Do you have an item number or model Mazo EMS2 ? Thanks in advance!

The straps are nothing special at all. They're just 1000# rated ratchet straps. Buy 3 of em and you're good to go. You might have to finagle the ratchet end to get the strap short enough to work with the fenders. The shorter the strap is between the ratchet and the hook, the better it works. I actually put the hook directly on the ratchet and it works great.
