There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. 29 tooth front sprocket

I mentioned in another post about a 29 tooth front sprocket from Mel's.Here is the reply I received"Hi Jay, Yes we are starting to make the Solid billet aluminum front sprocket. We found that you can only go one tooth bigger due to what adjustment BRP has. We are going to make one with one tooth missing. Stock sprocket is 28 teeth ,our new sprocket is 29 teeth and we will be coming out with a 27 tooth in the next 2 weeks. the 29 tooth saves gas how much? But less RPM = less gas, we don't really know because I can't drive 55. Thank you Jimmy MMG" no mention of price though. So for those who want to drop RPM's a little and possibly increase top end this could be the ticket.

i just got a reply from them also.
if price is not too outragious i will be getting the 27 teeth sprocket :ohyea::yes:

If -1 tooth will make the top end increase and better mileage then lets get one with only 10 teeth! Maybe we can get this sucker up to 200mph and still get 50mpg!:joke:

I be waiting for the report from someone after they install to see if it makes a noticible difference. Thanks for the news.

I would think if there was much to gain (either way) that Ken would have made a kit already.

I did speak to ken about this and he did thought about doing this but gave up on it. Initial investment was too high to recoup with limited sales. He felt not only the new sprocket was needed but a new belt as well. I think it was the belt that would have bigger impact on cost of production.

Mmg is saying they can get away with one less or more teeth with stock belt

If my calculations are correct, this is only worth a couple of hundred rpm at highway speeds. I doubt that's enough to help much either way.

Not sure what Ken's garage is like but MMG is basically a machine shop so he can make everything he sells. He doesn't have to outsource manufacturing.

I believe he farms out everything
I can not believe sprocket itself will be that expensive if he machines it out himself:pray: I contacted another manufacturer but they have not gotten back to me yet.

By advanced calculus - going from 28 to 29 teeth provides an increase in gear ratio by [(29/28)-1] or approximately 3.6%.

So, at 5000 RPM fixed, instead of 69 MPH, we'll be running at 71.5 MPH; or at 70 MPH fixed, RPM will drop from 5072 to 4897 and (if all else is same) instead of 30 MPG we'll be getting 31.1 MPG.

Of course, the opposite is true too... going from 28 to 27 gives you ~3.7% more torque and less MPG.

To Santa: can I get a sprocket with 25 teeth and a new belt?

Unfortunately, rpm, mpg, and mph are not related in a one-to-one ratio. Getting 3.6% more miles per hour, or dropping the rpm 3.6% will not increase the gas mileage by 3.6% If that were the case, EPA city mileage would be about double the highwayy mileage. We all know that is not the case.

The clutch already has a rough time during launches with 1st gear being so tall. Increasing the sprocket size will put more stress on the already stressed component, especially riding 2 up, IMO.

sprocket with less teeth is coming soon :yes::yes:

28t vs 29t comeing 27t

gear - speed - 28t rpm - 29t rpm - red. rpm
1 - 20 - 3400 - 3400 - 0
2 - 30 - 4100 - 3750 - 350
3 - 40 - 4150 - 4000 - 150
4 - 50 - 4300 - 4100 - 200
4 - 60 - 6000 - 5000 - 1000
5 - 50 - 3600 - 3500 - 100
5 - 60 - 4400 - 4200 - 200
5 - 70 - 5100 - 4800 - 300
