There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. WHY IS GAS MILEAGE SO BAD, COULD IT BE HOT GAS?

THANK YOU FOR THE KIND WORDS....

Oh Goodness if my buddy the 2 wheel Hog nut, had not been behind me, or I was on the turnpike, or stuck in traffic it could have very easily turned out different for the Ole Doomer that is for sure. Could have simply BBQed the boys! Lord them Hog Nuts would have never suggested I ride with em again.........

The update was done 1K miles before this happen, that does not rule out the dealership. They were very helpful in providing me the total work history on my bike to confirm all recall work was done.

I will check out the link and other stories about Spyder fires. I will also forward any usable information to my insurance company.
I have Progressive via USAA, and they have been wonderful thus far. I am so glad that I did not try to save a nickel on my insurance. Even got extra coverage for upgrades because I know I was going to bling DOOMZILLA out.... (what you did not name YOUR Spyder? what's wrong with you).

If you all are interested I will keep you updated on this sad, sad part of my life plays out.

Thanks,

I believe during the recall on the 2013's the fuel injection system is changed so it does not recirculate fuel back to the fuel tank. Did you have the recall done is the question here.

I'm not quite sure this ^^ is the case, altho they might have re-routed the fuel flow so it gets a chance to cool the fuel off a little before returning it to the tank.... so that if you want to argue the semantics, it may not take hot fuel back to the tank any more - but just like pretty much other every other electronic fuel injection system used anywhere in the world, the Spyder system still only actually 'uses' (or injects, or burns if you like) a fairly small percentage of the total volume of fuel pumped out of the fuel tank in the cylinders & the rest passes thru the system where it is used to maintain pressure as well as both a lubricant & coolant before returning all of the remaining un-burnt fuel to the fuel tank.... So AFAIK fuel is still circulating around the electronic fuel injection system 'loop' & is still being returned to the tank, whether you argue it's hot or otherwise!!

If you look here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/gewp9opmnczsnub/2013-10_RT_Heat_Recall.pdf?dl=0 - there is certainly still a Fuel Return Line going into the top of the fuel tank after the recall work is done, it's quite clearly labelled as Fuel Return Line on page 13 of 27 on the Heat Recall PDF :sour:

But that is really just an aside now, & possibly a moot point for Doom (altho maybe not for his insurer??) - I'm glad you're OK Doom, and would certainly like to know more as your ongoing saga progresses. And of course I want to know what Spyder you end up getting to replace your 2013 RT?!

STILL GOING ON.....

Progressive had the adjuster look at the remains today. I spoke with Can-AM last Friday. They were already aware of the fire as my dealer had notified them. They (Can-Am) asked me to fill out a "accident" report for them. My dealer had already sent them a bunch of pics.

I do not hold Can-Am or my dealer liable. From the looks of the Spyder I do not think it is possible for anyone to determine exactly where the fire started. I hope to have this all finalized in the next couple of days. Progressive is planning on sending their information to Can-Am, so will see what happens there.

Today I was at my Dealership talking about my new Spyder. It will be either a 2015 or 2016 RT Limited, the dealership seems to think that Cam-Am is going to make it possible for me to ride the flag ship at a price that would fit into my budget. So time will tell.
I sure wish I knew why my Spyder decided to " Flame out". There were a number of heat issues for sure. The engine radiator was way to far back, and left only a small area for the hot air to escape. The scoops helped on that a lot. However since 2014 when the radiators were move way forward there has been no neat issues I am aware of.

I sincerely loved my Spyder and looking forward to riding again.
Wife and I are planning on making the ride for "Spyder Fest" Blue Ridge Mountains June 3-5.
I would be embarrassed to show up to that on my Suzuki...he he

Don't know if I left a link to some pics but here it is. There are over 100 pics. I need to warn you, that the pictures are very graphic and are not intended for viewing by those under the age of 18. If you have a weak heart, or suffer from high blood pressure or toe fungus I strongly urge you to be careful while viewing these pics. They are indeed SCARY! VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK.....:yikes:

Show glad you were not hurt. Those are painful to look at. Please keep us posted on what they might think could have caused it. :dontknow:

UP DATE ON THE SPYDER FIRE

My insurance informed me on Thursday that they were just about done and were sending the paperwork for final approval. They haven't given me a number but I am confident it will be fine. Progressive is putting together a copy of all their "investigation" paper work to send to Cam Am.
I asked if they had determined a cause of the fire and was told not really.

I find that rather odd, but then again the Spyder was a pile of melted poo. With only the front not being as damaged as the rest of the bike.

My new Spyder with be a RT LIMITED in Black, with the XM of course. If there are no snags I could be on my Spyder by the end of next week, I hope.

Thanks for your thoughts and well wishes,

Panda

LAST POST TO THIS THREAD, FOR ME

WOW!
Has this been a merry go round. Progressive told me...according to their investigation that I had nothing to do with the fire.
(told them that) They are calling this a no-fault so my rates won't go up. I asked if they were going to contact Can Am and got the old "we don't know yet" response. So I have no idea what Progressive is going to do on that account.
Seems I have a release form to sign on Monday and the check to my lean holder will be sent, as well as a check to me.
That's great because as soon as that is taken care of. I will be picking up my New Spyder ST Limited.

Wanted an RT but the budget and the wife said different. I am excited. I sure as heck love these machines!!

Thanks to all for your ideas, input, and well wishes.

Thanks,

MPG????

At my age, a few extra pennies for gas does not bother me. The way I look at it, the enjoyment of riding my RTL comes first and all other distractions are poof and gone. My riding buddies also feel the same. The fuel tank holds approx. 6.5 gallons and if gas went up a nickel, that would be 30 cents plus more. Big deal!!!!!
