There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Oil change!

When is the best time to change oil on your Spyder? When you store for winter or before that first ride when you take it out of hibernation?

Choices choices....

I would put it away with clean oil and filters. Sooo much nicer to fire up and ryde than warm her up for an oil change...

How would it be if you drain now push it to its parking place and add oil when you start your season.

With my memory I would forget, better to have oil in it. I would and have left the old oil in my bikes over the winter with no ill effects.

Drain before storage / fill when ready to use ...NOT

As PMK stated, oil eventually ends up with corrosives "acids" in it. Oil is made to "stick" to metal parts with which it comes in contact. Therefore, the highly contaminated oil will stick to the metal parts until you dilute it with fresh oil. Best to do that before storage. YES, running it WILL add a small bit of contamination but this will be a smaller percentage then if you had just put it away with old oil sticking to your "innards"! Of course how much any of this matters is how much run-time is on your oil and for how long you have it in storage. I live in south central PA. My Spyder MIGHT get to sit for 4 months at the very most. But, it rare when it goes longer than 4 weeks between at least short rides.

More importantly is WHEN you start it, GO. Don't let it sit and idle. No need for any sort of "warm up". You want the rings, pistons and other "innards" to warm up quickly and expand to normal operating temp. GENTLY riding does this MUCH quicker than idling. When the engine is cold and parts are loose, you increase oil contaminations by having fuel get by the "loose" (yes, I know it's a relative term) piston/ring/cylinder wall clearances and mixing with the oil.

Change your oil now. It makes your bike HAPPY!

Don't you want your bike to be happy while it's waiting for the next ride?

Ideally, recommended to change out the old and let is sit over the winter sleep period with fresh oil and filter. Come Spring, you are ready to go and don't have to worry about junk in the oil. Peace of mind can be a good thing.:yes::yes:

Oil change

Just don't let your wife take it in , my little bride has brought a new one home the last two times she went in for an oil change!

Change your oil before you put into hibernation, let it set with new oil. The same time change your oil filter. Deanna

Buy some Rotella T6 oil and change it before storage. Then, in the spring, put 1000 miles or so on it and then change it again with some BRP oil if you feel the need to spend a bit more for oil. In either case, change the oil and filter prior to storing

If for some extremely odd:dontknow::dontknow: reason you decide to do it this way be sure to put tape over the ignition switch with a tag that says DO NOT START NO OIL. Then remove the battery.

I wouldn't know. I ride year round, no matter how cold it gets.

What is the coldest it gets in North Carolina! Cuz here in Chicago it could get as cold as 40 below zero! I'll like to see any body ride in that type of weather!

Another thing is the amount of salt they use to melt the snow! It will eat up your gaskets and ruin the finish of your bike! So I'm left with no choice but to store it for the winter! Glad you can ride all year long! Ride safely!

I never had to make that decision

HOWEVER
If it were my motorcycle I would drain all the oil and change out the filters,
start it and run it till warmed up then shut it down for the winter.
Cover it up and keep in in a warm garage or I even have known folks who
put an elect. blanket over theirs
I ride year round so I am fortunate to have mostly good weather all the time

Thank you all for your honest opinion on this matter! Oil and filters change before storage, it is!
And no, I will not let my bike sit without oil in it!!:clap:
